"When I told my parents two years ago that I wanted to take poker seriously they said it was ok as long as I routinely gave them money that they'd invest for me. I strongly recommend this to anyone. It has allowed me to play with an extremely large bankroll, not tilt or risk too much and makes it near impossible to go broke. "

I do this to an extent as well. My parents see every check I get, so its more like "real money".
i made my stars account before i was 18, and that's the only site i play on now. the account is in my mom's name.

the first few times i cashed out for thousands were pretty weird when the only job i had before that was at Target for $7.50/hr.

Most of my friends are riding the busto line. A few have money from having saved and invested from age 15-20. A few have parents' money.

I have 17k in bank accounts, about 3k online and a couple hundred bucks cash. I pay for 100% of my school as well which has been three years now. I'm doing pretty okay.

Wow I really feel sorry for all of you who are broke. It def does suck, I remember back like 6-7 years ago when I only had 20 bucks to my name so I def know how it feels...now I have 200k and i'm in love Of course the love is with poker.

I got 20K readily available, 50K in investments paying for college, parents bought my truck in highschool, and I play poker and dont have a job...I guess smart planning by grandparents and parents does wonders considering ill finish college with at least 50K to start with and no debts...what it do

You are proving to be a huge douche in just about every forum you post.

hmmmm. in my experience (UK students), ignoring student loans, most people have £100-£2000.

what i never understood is the people who tell me at the end of the month that they have like £20 left till the next check from daddy comes. it really makes me go 'wtf!!??' every time. get a job yo

i've got like... $1000, but my college is paid for by scholarships and my car's paid off. so no debt. that's pretty good i guess.

In summary,

I think everybody who can get out of college debt-free and clean is very fortunate.

I didn't read beyond the first few replies, but $3-5k is astonishingly beyond average for a 20-21 year old.

Something like $2.1k for your entire net worth puts you ahead of 50% of the world's population.

Pretty sure the thread was about students, given that it's in student life. Your point is pretty moot.

Also, this thread make me feel kickass about earning 4.5k bluecollaring this summer. A lot of my friends are riding the busto line, a lot of them are trust fund babies that get to keep what they make in the summer (and not pay for rent, tuition, etc etc) Still, I estimate the average worth (that they have available to them) is ~1.5k.

I'm from a pretty affluent family and my 1st year of uni was paid for (which saved my ass from megadebt, I was broke off my ass this time last year), but now I'm pretty close to on my own. 4.6k roll, 5.7k in saving, scholarship whittled my tuition down to 3kish which I'll have to pay soon. God bless Canadian universities.

less if they go to college

If you include student loans it's a big minus for me...

Pretty affluent family but they won't pay your 3k tuition? Or do they just choose not to?
08-10-2007 , 02:39 PM
Choose not to. Partly my choice as well. Up until last year I've really had no clue how to manage my personal finances and money didn't have a whole lot of meaning as well. I have enough income and cash to do it comfortably and still be well above the student mean, so I think it's a decent idea.

my parents pay for school.
they make me go. I dont want to, they force me.
Dad deducts it all (or most) via taxes.
He's a real tax guru.

My living expenses are minimal.
I'm not much of a poker player. I 8 table NL30(or 60?) (deep) 6max. This summer I'v been making good money b/c I play 2k hands a day about (during school year its more like 3 or 4k a week).

Overall I am prolly worth 12-15k.
I attribute this mainly to being very cheap and investing.

I mean I do not buy drugs.
I dont by booze.
I bought a cheap car w/ my own money.
I dont wear nice/new cloths.
Have no GF.

If I ever spend money its on my family.

7k in bank and 6k online and im a freshman. -400 to pay back parents from when i didnt have any money. all money is from poker, although i have had jobs in the past and spent all of those monies.

Oh and by the way nascar is dumb, arena football is dumb, preseason football is dumb, and i'm tired of seeing john clayton's face on espn. just thought you all should know.

Certainly negative for any non poker people.

I lol hard when people make fun of me for playing poker, then bitch and moan that they have $20 in their wallet.
QFMFT.

Most of my friends are silly broke. Really sucks when all I want to do is play Madden/poker/beruit for money, and they don't wanna lose 10% of their net worth on a game
09-02-2007 , 10:32 AM
Lol at how none of you probably pay taxes. IRS will come to get you soon.
09-02-2007 , 01:02 PM
I have around $200 in my checking account and $400 in my savings account. My only income is the "personal expenses" money from my scholarship.
