How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
Going to school full time, while trying to play poker (and make a little money) can be quite difficult for thy. I have been quite ineffective while trying to balance my schedule in the pass, especially when I start playing video games.
Just wondering how you guys manage to take a full load of class, work out, eat, sleep, ****, and play poker? Any any suggestions?

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
I was in the same scenario, my last year of college. First off, if you're just starting to go to school its pretty much impossible to player poker, get good grades and enjoy the college life style with a demanding major. My personal suggestion is, enjoy partying and get good grades the first two years. I've literally had the best and craziest times during my first and second years of school. Getting REAL good grades is key, b/c you can slack like a mofo later down the road and still graduate with a good GPA. Fast Forward to senior year...I was able to only have class MWF (one class Friday), work 4 days a week, maintain a solid gym schedule, play cards and have a social life. What was sacrificed, sleep. Class was just "there", i mentally checked out half way through my jr year and put everything on cruise until graduation and still finished with a 3.3 and have a great paying job now. I'd literally go to the gym right after work if i worked the day shift.
Then on my days off i'd play cards. The casino I played at was only 15mins away. Poker wise, i was forced to play at the most not ideal times...Some Tuesdays and Thursdays, I'd literally leave for the casino at 11pm play through the night, drive to campus nap in my office until class started.
Also, drop the video games...i sold my xbox for that main reason. There was no way it was gonna be apart of my schedule.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
I substituted poker in for video games except on occasion.
I am interested to hear any responses. I've been getting back into poker but will have a full load, be working 24 hours a week (+6 hours of commute time,) be looking for a post graduation job (senior,) and have a gf so I'm not sure how much poker will be played. Never been this busy. I feel like taking on that job is going to be such a huge time drain.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
You just have to make time for it if it's something you really want to do. It isn't that hard, especially if you aren't working. Maybe some majors it can get difficult around finals but time management is something all adults have to figure out at some point in life.
Cut out meaningless stuff like surfing the internet wasting time or watching pointless TV shows.
Wait until you have a full-time job that you commute to everyday. You'll wish you had as much free time as you did when you were in college.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
It really isn't that hard. I went to school full-time, had a gf, lots of friends, very active social life, got good grades and was still able to put in decent volume. And I was a tournament player which is much harder to be flexible with. Like Hero said, cut out all the pointless **** like video games and TV.
I just grinded ~2 days during the week after class (usually Monday/Tuesday b/c the least is going on) and then I'd wake up at like 9 am Saturday morning and grind most of the day b/c we rarely day drank Saturdays + the occasional Sunday. I'm sure most people don't want to get up at 9 am to grind after partying Friday night but I'm weird like that.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
As stated above it really is about time management, when I would grind I never really had a set schedule but when i started to play Id set a time that Id want to play to of possible(would usually quit to hang out with friends or party ect...)
Also I like the early morning suggestion. On days where I didnt have class until 1 Id sometimes wake up at like 9 and grind for a couple hours, I like being up that early and playing for some reason too.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
well I just finished my master and filed in my thesis in business economics at the uni and I played almost every day from 10am to 1pm poker. Never went to classes and just went to the evening stuff with companies and stuff.
perfectly manageable.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
I don't think its that hard I had a part-time job, was doing a full schedule (law and history degrees) and was able to grind as much or as little as I wanted. Third year law didn't have as many lectures so I had tons of time during the week to grind. I think if you were doing engineering or medicine or architecture or something it would be pretty hard but aside from that you shud be able to fit it in.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
I think the biggest thing is just planning ahead. I only play MTTs which are the hardest to find time to play and still work it out. It helps to schedule your classes close together or on the same few days to open up time. Last semester I had 4 classes MWF 8-12 and one TT 11-12:15 plus an online. This worked out well because I could grind basically any day I wanted to except the late nights before my 8 am class. This upcoming semester I loaded my classes between Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I have zero classes Friday-Monday. Obviously this is great because I can play whenever I want to between these days.
Alot also depends on what else you like to do/have to do. I don't have a part -time job or play a sports so this helps. Either of those will definatley cut into your grind time (which is not saying either of those two are bad, just stating a fact). Also, I personally don't drink or party so that opens up weekends for me because I usually hangout with friends during the week between classes and at night. You can find a way for it to work no matter what else you like to do though. If you like to go out every weekend, you could just schedule your classes to all be done before 12 during the week and play starting then. Obviously is not ideal to have early classes but you have to make a few sacrafices somewhere to find time to play.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
I had to forfeit the lifting for a couple of semesters. Cash is going to be so much easier than mtts. Now is the time though, ask any recent grads (me and a long time 2p2'er friend), you won't even have the time to come on the forums once you get a job.

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
the best thing to do is make a weekly timetable, this will help heaps!
Although it takes a lot of discipline to follow, it helps in the long run to be more organised.
What i do is i plan when to sleep, study, play poker, see friends, work and go out. sometimes i feel like my life is a bit robotic but its the only way i can keep up with everything

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
You get so much out of a day or week if you use it effectively. If I just went to school full time and did what you listed, I'd want to kill myself of boredom. I jam my schedule and enjoy it, but I wouldn't have it any other way than a full plate.
With no caffeine and lifting 3 times a week gives me tons of energy and no dull periods.
Some advice, I was turned onto PUA stuff from The Game. But I turned it into a huge self-development project. Dale Carnegie and Ekert Tolle helped me stop over-thinking thus eliminating anxiety and stress from my life. Randy Pausch lectures, can be found on youtube, about living your childhood dream and time management really enlightened me.
Sleep 4-5 hours a night..After giving up caffeine, I fall asleep right away and sleep solidly.
Work - I work two jobs between 65-70 hours a week, I enjoy it and socializing within a work setting. Rather pay for tuition in cash than debt.
School - Just started back for my masters in accounting, taking 12 credit hours, 10 hours of class time. I use to never go to classes, but do now. I use the time to study on my own and zone out the lecture. I plan on joining an accounting organization once I figure out which one.
Poker - I play about 15-20 hours a week, on one of the few sites available.
Social - I still go out a night or two a week, utilizing what I've learned allows me to go out and have fun, enjoy socializing with women. Even allows me to socialize while grocery shopping and making dates, efficiently without over-thinking if she likes me, what do I say etc.
Finally, have fun in everything you do. It helps and have a system to file things, keep things orderly and clean.

I was in your shoes not too long ago. I thought that I played a lot of poker when I was in school but it wasn't until a few months ago when I played the most amount of hands I've played in a month all while working a full time job + gym 4x a week + having a social life that I realized I was actually a pretty lazy piece of sh*t when I was a school.
You should have no problem putting in a ton of volume while at school. My best advice to you is to quit being soft, man up and just do it. Put in the hours and the money will come. I actually get sick to my stomach now when I start playing video games by myself. I just think... I could be using my time so much more effectively right and now and even be making money! Instead... I'm playing this stupid game that is getting me no where in life. No one here can force you to play. You have to just do it. Make time for it and make the most out of the time you have everyday.
JUST DO IT!

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
Instead of saying "I don't have any time to play poker," phrase it as: "Playing poker is not a priority in my life." Because they essentially mean the same thing. If it was a priority then you would make time for it. And I found for myself at least, that when you phrase it the second way it kind of kicks you in the butt and you start to structure your time better so that you can fit it into your schedule. (And this applies to working out/studying for class/anything). Saying "I don't have any time to play poker" is like check/calling: PASSIVE. We want to be aggressive not just at the table but at everything in life (well, sort of).

Re: How do you manage to fit poker in your schedule?
I drop some of the other hobbies I had, video games, watching crap on TV/Films etc. You still have time for class and socialising but just make sure that you are focused on the little time you have to yourself.
However, if you enjoy other stuff more than poker, e.g. films, tv etc just do them instead, being happy at school is v +ev for your grades.
