In the video games cases, although I am not sure, the companies are given the choice to remove things and have their game allowed in Australia, or not. Obviously censorship sucks in this case, but if a company doesnt get to have access to the Aus Market, its usually by a decision from them(which is forced by the Aus censoring the **** to being with)

OMG the censorship isn't even bad!!! This is what you need to understand!!!!!

IT DOES NOT SUCK!!! We are not missing any value in the game. This is such a ridiculous argument. I'm over this and probably just gonna chalk this up to America and Australia being different cultures.

Back to talking about women.

do you know much of a colossal pain in the ass making and distributing 2 different versions of a game is? taking one cut scene out might cost a video game developer hundreds of thousands.

now the game developer passes the cost on to the customers, hires less people, move to a new genre to prevent issues like this etc etc

there's a huge ripple effect when the gov't does some seemingly small intervention but it ends up draining millions from the economy on a yearly basis.

Well we already pay $110 for a new game so they can just take it out of that. You guys get new ones for $60 don't you. Ridiculous.
07-08-2013 , 09:43 PM
And yes that includes downloads, so don't pull that 'shipping' bull****.

yes well, an australian gamestop employee is making 17 bucks an hour while an american gamestop employee is probably making closer to 10.

do the math.

if you want cheaper prices don't pay your high school dropouts twice what they're labour is worth.

And what about digital downloads? Shouldn't we be getting them for $60, the same as America?

This is off topic sorry. I'll stop with this. It makes me angry living in Australia sometimes.

LCBO -- cashiers make an average of $24.xx/hr. One of the reasons Canadian booze is so extensive.

also my position isnt that australia isn't censorship heavy -- i'm just providing info.
hot coffee required you to hack your console and was disabled with a patch and taken out of new copies in the US once discovered

not convinced here

where did i say it was the only factor. there's hundreds, it's one of them.
07-08-2013 , 11:25 PM
Thats the cost of living on a ****ing island that has to import a lot of things.

Look on the bright side you have online poker.

So the average household income in America is $50,000 per year.

I could only find the median for Australia, which is $66,000.

So that'll factor in as well.

I read an article on Kotaku saying that they are charging $100 for a new game simply because people will pay for it. People are dumb. I can't remember the last time I bought a game in a shop. Let's send all our Australian dollars overseas. ****ing geniuses.

I think the place that Australians have the most to be pissed about is the housing/rental market, they pretty much rape you no lube in real estate over there.
07-09-2013 , 12:45 AM
lol yeah. I'm currently on about 45k a year and would be close to broke if I moved out. (Unless I lived in a shack obv.)
07-09-2013 , 12:59 AM
It's pretty similar in America too in some Florida/NY/California locations.....real estate value obviously dove in 2008, but the house my parents currently own is still $30-40k/yr in property taxes alone (and going up)
07-09-2013 , 01:02 AM
I admire the folks that make ends meet with that type of ridiculousness on top of mortgages

That number seems absurdly high.
07-09-2013 , 02:08 AM
Ya I mean I live in a really corrupt town as you know, the cops get paid almost the highest paid in the entire country....The highest get paid in our neighboring county

But yeah that number isn't bull****, I can show you the bill/statement when I'm back home next weekend

Aussie isn't that bad compared to Good US cities. A nice centralish place in melbs costs like 600k but so does somethig in San Fran, DC, NY etc. looking at a meh 3br house in the burbs or small apartment just out of CBD and its 300-400k. Seems pretty reasonable given ease of getting mortgages, high income and high rental returns, as well as govt incentives tax wise for purchasing. I'm looking at getting an investment property I'm that range at the end of the year and seems pretty easy financially

My point wasn't "Australia's censorship is that of a third world country." It was that it is the WOAT for 1st world countries, and most people would agree with that. Some super terrible policies that were trying to be implemented in recent years by the government and are continually trying to be implemented don't help their case.

That and other civil rights issues like no gay marriage, their own war on drugs, etc. keep them from being more elite than other countries. Seems like they are always in line or slightly behind other Western countries.

Also don't understand dkgo's contribution to this thread. Really seemed like he said nothing and was completely wrong. Not usually the case.

But person who is most incorrect is CC. Censorship by a private entity (say a movie theater or a video game retailer) is completely different than by the government. ESRB and MPAA are voluntary as goofy said. However, most retailers/theaters won't show or sell something if it gets a certain rating. Yes, there is censorship, but it is all down voluntarily by the creators of the product in response to restrictions retailers may impose. And yeah, after you realized you were wrong, you went to the standard semantics argument you've been using lately, which is massively dishonest. No one should bother arguing with you about anything if that's all you can do is to be a 5 year-old and cry out "Well, you didn't say GOVERNMENT censorship! You are wrong!"

Give them an inch, and they'll take a mile. You clearly don't realize how destructive this is. Your precious internet will most likely soon be censored.

Man, that was way too much politarding. Back to not politarding for awhile.
