Re: SL "Ask A Girl Out" Thread: Steal This [Pick-up Line]!

Is your happiness then pretty much unchanged from $55k to $50k? $50k to $46k? $46k to $42k? $42k to $38k? $38k to $35k? I think there's something wrong here.

Re: SL "Ask A Girl Out" Thread: Steal This [Pick-up Line]!

Obviously there is a difference between $60k and $36k. For myself there would be a difference but not a major one but in this respect I realize I am an outlier.

Also, in these discussions I'm assuming we are talking about someone with no hope of ever making real money. I'm basically thinking a typical public servant who this is their life for ever.

I don't level. Like I said I realize that I am an outlier on this one.

quality of your life isn't drastically different between 36k vs 60k IMO

EDIT: other than being able to retire earlier

1. We are talking about Henry here, which means his last statement is false or everything about him is false.

2. This is a terrible blanket statement. GL living in NYC with $36k compared to Bloomington.

There is a huge difference between $36k and $60k and less of a difference between $100k and $150k in most cases.

There is a huge difference in quality of life between 60k and 36k. The extra money will be beneficial in a very noticeable way in almost all aspects of your life (accomodations, vehicle/ transport / social life / disposible income). I can't even fathom how someone can say elsewise.

I once read that your odds of winning one of the big multi state lotteries are essentially the same whether you purchase a ticket or not due to the documented times of lottery winners reporting they found their lost ticket in the garbage, on the ground, etc.

Re: SL "Ask A Girl Out" Thread: Steal This [Pick-up Line]!

you guys must have some sick living expenses if you think you can't live a good life on 36k edit: it REALLY tilts me when married people act like they can't live off 2 x 30k=60k. wtf

edit 2: I forgot we live in a society that does not like to save, but thinks it's proper to spend every penny and take out loans to spend even more.

I imagine that the difference between 36k and 60k is huge. If it were my motivation, I could probably put up the facade that I had as much $ as Henry if I were making 60k. That's really quite a bit if you're a single guy...I actually don't know how people could spend that much.

You can't. Unless your idea of good living is a below average home and never doing anything.

Also kids are expensive. Not that I have any but most married couples do end up with them.

Re: SL "Ask A Girl Out" Thread: Steal This [Pick-up Line]!

Kids seriously cost like 500k+ each to raise to 18. However, I think that this is the budget route... as in Easy Mac for dinner every other night and shoes from Payless.

Any time I think I want a kid I think, "hmmmm... Ferrari or a child?" I think we all know the answer to that one.
