Nah it was a position I had no interest in anyway. And that exchange was from months ago, the election has passed. That was just an example.

Re: SL "ask a bunch of guys on the internet about mackin da fly honeyz" thread
Being president of my dorm in college was great. Minimal responsibility, and I got a whole two bedroom apartment to myself in the middle of the building amidst a bunch of small dorm rooms.
I did it in HS too, but I'll admit that was largely retarded. Being student body vice president meant that I ran all of the pep assemblies on football gamedays though, so that was fun.

Your dorm president got a room? That seems absurd

Yes. But it was basically the majority of the reason I ran, so no complaints here. It was furnished and everything.

People often post differently on a couch than they act in real life. Yes, it's a reflection of their general personality, but it's also a reflection of the "id" (to use a term poorly) or self without any of the societal norms or inhibitions we exercise while laying on the couch. People also exaggerate for effect, to get a laugh or to explore creative outlets. Think of it a lot like someone who writes a book about a couch. Just because they base a character off someone known as the couch girl, or even themselves, doesn't mean the literal liberties they take are an actual reflection of their true character or personality or even the couch's personality. It's sort of like authoring a story. I think many "normal people" would act this way given the opportunity (but certainly not all). Look at how people act when they get drunk for a test case, but not drunk enough to get their ass off the couch.
While it is concerning that LKJ claims to act exactly the same way IRL, I think that's more out of a reeling defense mechanism to not appear defensive (does that make sense) to you than anything else. If he truly acted very similar to this way while sitting on the couch, I doubt he'd have many friends, or fellow couch potatoes. I'm sure he harbors stereotypes and general dislikes (the hate for chairs) like we all do, but I doubt he articulates them as often or as directly as he does on here. Example: if someone made a series of bad jokes IRL, and LKJ responded with some diatribe about surface thinkers finding it funny after half his friends laughed it, I doubt he'd be viewed very highly from that point on. I find it hard to believe someone could possibly defy all social norms and act like this, regardless of what he claims.
Furthermore, you seemed to ignore a lot of his responses and kept plunging down this psycho-analysis angle just because it was getting to him. I'd pull back a bit. Yes, you got some right, but don't go overboard with yourself and fall off your own couch.

However, while I don't blame you for drawing this conclusion, it isn't the correct one. I'm a unique case. My best friend once compared me to Anton Chigurh, the villain from No Country for Old Men, and said that like what Woody Harrelson's character said about Chigurh, I'm principled in a way that most people aren't and in a way that they don't even really understand...and as such I go around laying into people socially because I almost feel obligated to in the same way that he felt obligated to go around killing people. Yes, this comparison makes me sound ****ing weird, but it's also precisely what you've seen on display here in SL too.
And yet...the part where I'm always pretty popular, and have little trouble making friends? That's all true too. I suppose that combination is difficult to buy into, but that is the truth of the situation.
Here's an e-mail exchange with a close female friend of mine (the girlfriend of a friend of mine):
Her: "You should run for <student government position>. I'd vote for you!"
Me: "I could never beat <current office-holder>. She is pretty much the #1 master of putting on a happy face and convincing everyone she likes them. And while she's #1 on that list...I'm about #200. And that's out of about 216 people in our class. Yes, I'm reasonably popular in spite of that, but don't ask me how."
Her: "Because, although she's cheery, I don't know how genuine she is. Not that I don't like her, of course! But people know they are getting the real thing with you & that makes up for the lack of cheery-ness. Also, I get sick of cheery people. Bring on the snark. "
People who I e-mail with have frequently commented to me about how amazing it is that I type exactly like I talk in person. A whole wide variety of people have said that to me. "It's like I can hear you saying these words. It's hilarious." So, you really are getting my voice.
Anyway, believe me or don't as far as my sincerity goes. I'm not going to claim to not care, because I've obviously bothered to put effort into trying to convince...but aside from providing anecdotes (which I can't really prove as authentic), I can't really prove my claim any further.

For what it's worth from a relatively impartial lurker, your posts don't strike me as dishonest and I don't have much reason to doubt that you have a reasonably accurate perception of yourself. That you are still somewhat socially successful with your personality isn't necessarily shocking, though I can't imagine your "laying into people" being very well received unless people found you funny enough that it didn't seem too much like a personal attack.

LKJ (and antagonists), please stop or take it to a different thread. Don't we have a thread for this already? (old man?)
