Laptop Programs (Uni, Poker, General Usage) Laptop Programs (Uni, Poker, General Usage)

Sorry if there is a better place to post this thread, it seems atleast a little appropriate.

So i'm using Excel 2003 at the moment for keeping all of my poker info in, amongst other important things (dates/plans/etc.). I don't really use any other program like Word because you can do all you want on Excel.

Anyway, I'm going to university in September, but want to upgrade some of the sofware on my laptop right now. Would getting Microsoft Office 2013 be a good idea or is it overpriced?

Also, the laptop I have is coming up to a year old and I want to make sure I dont murder it with viruses likes I did the last , the programs I use are all free; AVG 2014, CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I know the basics about laptops but is there anything else I really need?

p.s if you don't have these, I reccomend them for sure. Found them on this great site- http://download.cnet.com/windows/

There is no reason to buy any microsoft product. Free alternatives abound and the real deal is easily pirated.
