I think it would be a better idea to work and take 1-2 classes on the side. If you do well then switch over to being a full time student.

technical school? Do you mean trade(electric, plumbing, auto) if the OP is good/likes to work with tools than that is a great idea.

tech school is for a 2 year degree. It's not a trade school.

People go back to school all the time. I took a couple night classes one semester and had probably 5 or 6 people in the class out of 30 over 40. Its not a club, your going for an education.

Not too old Lirva

Just moved to OK, and Im going to OSU IT in Okmulgee in the Fall. Im 29, but I only have 1 more semester to graduate w/ my AA. Then on to OSU Stillwater.

Like a lot of ppl, I just fkd around in my younger years. I feel a little old, but hopefully the girlz wont think Im a creep or nething

Financial Aid looks tough when you first start (FAFSA, grants, scholarships, etc.) but it gets easier w/ you actually complete the FAFSA. (max pell grant award ftw)

dunno if this has been mentioned, as i'm too lazy to read the thread, but you ironically might be in a much better position than a lot of people who did quite decently in high school, only to then go off to college and perform poorly and graduate with **** grades, or even get kicked out of college.

Consider that the world is on the verge of collapsing, world war 3 around the corner, radiation fallout, 2012 etc etc, do you really want to live what could be last 2 years of your life going to class??

Live life to the fullest now, then start taking classes if you're still alive after december 2012 if nothing happened

Fwiw I always see at least a couple of people in their late 20s/early 30s in my classes. Most of them seem to take school much more seriously than the younger, "traditional" students and as a whole tend to do very well.
What this guy said.

Also, depending on the state there are different guarantees as to the amount of credits that will transfer and even to the point of guaranteed acceptance.

What state do you live in.... if you are in California, 1-2 years of community college with easy A's and then transfer to Berkeley or UCLA. I had friends who has like 2.1 GPAs in high school and ended up graduating from Berkeley.

I'm 32 and just went back to school. After nearly ten years being a carpenter/cabinetmaker I just decided it wasn't what I wanted out of life. I got good grades in hs and ok grades my first couple of years of college, but never finished.

1. College as an old person is awesome.
2.You go to class, do your homework, and are interested in what you're studying.
3.There are tons of hot chicks all over the place to secks.
4.You can party, but it's not like you haven't done it before so you actually get ur **** done.

If you have pokers to make some manies there really is no reason not to go back to school. And **** community college, find a way to get into a proper university: state schools are pretty easy game imo.

Your loans/grants depend on your income. If you claim your online winnings (and make decent money), you won't get as many grants but will still be able to get loans. If you don't claim and don't show very much income at all you should be able to get good grants/loans to cover most if not all of the tuition and living expense. Blah blah blah has anyone mentioned FAFSA? Do it bro, you got nothing to lose.

EGGBEE/standard guitar tuning guy: GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGGOGOGO! It is teh best. I really don't know what else to say. Do what you need to do. Do you have commitments os? Why do you have to get a turnkey? Are you just a balla os? NO regrets. TBH initially it was a bit awkward, but I am a very friendly person irl and made friends in no time. Gen-eds kinda blow cause the chicks are mostly fresh outta high school, I mean, their ****ing facebooks have prom pictures and braces in them (they grow up very quickly though imo). Get your ass in gear son, and get in a FAFSA application asap.

college is seriously easy too. there is no reason you cant work a full time job and get a degree taking night classes.

so like what are you going to do for the next 4 years that will prevent you from getting a degree in your free time? you can do everything you are doing now but just waste less time browsing stupid websites and when you wake up 4 years from now you will be a college graduate.

Not all colleges/programs are easy =\

I live off loans because I know having a job in the past affected my grades. Not worth it to me.

Ok so here's the deal. You are different than you used to be when you were in college. You are more responsible (more likely than not), you manage time better, and you value money more. Balancing a job and school is a bit easier when you give a ****, and missing a class means throwing away some money. At eighteen you would never miss a concert you paid 50 bucks for, but going to class is a drag and hangovers can be a *****. At 28 you will show up and study and work.

It sucks to have to think about getting out of school at an older age with a little debt (ok a fair amount of debt) but there are tons of programs, grants, loans etc that can help out a ton. Do you know what you want to go to school for? If you don't, take a test at the career center of a community college or something, it is free and can be very helpful.

FAFSA. Free money (grants)/very low interest government loans. I believe as you progress that the interest rates on these loans get lower as well. So freshman 5%, Sophmore 4%, etc. If you haven't done your taxes they need to be done before you apply. And I don't think you need to have a specific school picked out but you need to have a couple choices at least. It is not too late for this fall, especially if you start out at a community college/trade school. If you want to go to a proper college, or a university, you need to get your ass in gear.

I feel ya on the not talking to 19 year olds. Some look at you a bit strange like why the **** is this old guy in my class, but you are there to learn and get a degree. As I said I am just really friendly in real life so I have made all sorts of friends. I do have friends that are non-traditionals like myself that are not nearly as outgoing as I am. They, for the most part, are not as social with their younger classmates. Maybe I'm just immature, I don't really care.

Let me say this too. Old is an attitude, my friend, not an age. You can be mature and not be old. Do it up buddy. Feel free to PM or post if you need any help, want advice, or have more questions.

You should totally do it. I think the hardest part of it all will be from yourself. Staying disciplined, motivated, willing to be the old guy, etc. You should be able to crush the coursework and it all just fine.

Re: Am I too old to start college? Could I even get accpted?

I'm 29 and going to Berkeley for chem/stats/econ. I got a GED at 17 after getting expelled with a 2.1 GPA. Yadda yadda yadda, I ended up enrolling in a community college in Arizona when I was 26. I transferred here to Cal and have a 4.0 GPA and am getting paid to go to school. Financial aid for 'financially independent' students (anyone over 24) is sick, fully covering life expenses if you can keep them low, and if you don't mind some loans.

It's not odd being in classes with kids 8-10 years younger than me. They either think I'm 24 or 25, or 'look up to me' because I'm older. The weirdest part is being older than some professors, and older than most of the graduate student teacher's assistants.

Re: Am I too old to start college? Could I even get accpted?

I'm 24 and re enrolling starting this summer. I'm quitting my full time job to just live off financial aid and loans. The first time I screwed up, it was because I was working too much. Maybe I'll try to find something part time bussing tables for beer money but mostly it's school or bust. I'm still not 100% sure what I want to do, but I don't want to be stuck in a dead end job forever. Probably work toward teaching, maybe overseas for a while. My plan is to nail a good GPA down at the community college level and transfer to a school that I can be proud of.

FML

I went back to school in my mid-30's. 1st community college, then transferred to a top public university and am now in law school at close to 40. It can be done :-)
