LAPC event 1 is a total cluster****
After the debacle of the first event at the LAPC, i can only assume the tournament is run by morons.
I arrive at 12:15 for the 1pm start not worried about getting a seat, because there is no cap on the tournament, and registration is open till 3pm.
After 45 mins, I am still in line and the tournament is starting. The tournament has been filled for 15 mins already, and we are at alternate 100. I am about 1/4 of the way through the line, and it has pretty well stopped moving due to the few hundred people trying to cut in front to get a seat. There are about 300 people in front of me still waiting in line. Oh and it is friggin hot as well.
I can only assume now that It will be at least 4 more hours before I can get my alternate number and be given a seat, assuming I get a seat at all. At this point the blinds will be about 200-400, and my starting stack is 3000.
I give up and go home.
Well done LA Poker Classic.

I was surprised that so many people were sticking around to be alternates, only to be sat w/ at best 15BB stacks.

Last year's first tournament (also a $300 buyin) had 1,191 entrants so they should know how to do this.

The first LAPC event and the $300 RB are always like this. That's why you should buy your seat one day in advance. Also, on the day of the tournament, you should arrive at least one hour in advance in order to secure a parking space.

Or even just a couple hours early. I got there at 11 and bought my entry and there were only about 10 people in line. When I went back up at 12:45 there were about 150. The dealer at my table said the first event is always like this. Tomorrow should be better.

Thanks for the glowing report Scott I can only tell you that we ended up with 1592 players smashing the record for a Los Angeles tournament. We started with 93 tables and ended up with 662 alternates. No way we could have anticipated this many players in the opening event with tournaments down across the county. I could have capped it and maybe I should of but I thought this was the best way to make the most people happy. All players got in by 100-200.
BTW, registration has been open for 6 days
First place is $124,985 with 100 spots paid
You are the first I have heard complain..... I am sure there are others, but I can guarantee you that outside the crush of people in the registration line the tournament ran flawlessly.
Luckily I have 34 other event to prove to you that this will be a great series!

Correct... I was shocked to see how many people showed up last minute and even more shocked to see how many waited to get in.

Seriously. It was run fine. Sorry for the idiots that waited until the last hour to register... that YOUR fault.
edit: next event I would love for somebody else's KK to run into my AA. Thanks.

Sweet... thanks to this cluster F thread and Matt's info above I've decided I must come down next week. Even with the Commerce overbooked and having to stay with the girlfriend's parents, the action is too good to miss. See y'all there.

This tournament was amazing, particularly the structure and field size. Nm the guy who called my button raise from the BB with Q6 s00ted, flopped a fd then check called my overbet push and hit. The only real problem was the parking. Where can u park when the lot & valet are full?

yea i got there last min, actually i sepnt 45 mins trying to park and then FINALLY got in there like 15 mins late and found a line about 60ft long..... Thus i decided to play 20/40 needless to say ill prolly hold out for a week or so till theres a bigger evet on a weekday.
Just run more 500s and 1ks imo.
The commerce dealers all hate the ppl running it as they work 3 hrs without a push and the players go insane trying to find tablees, and wtf is the point... who cares about the little ppl; just make bigger Bis and then you wont even have to think abotu a cap =)

Re: LAPC event 1 is a total cluster****
I was there about 2 hours early, ended up a 200+ alternate. I probably should have refunded and saved the money. I think that they should have capped the registration at say 1100, IMO but otherwise it was okay, and the High Limit room was buzzing so great side action as usual. Totally agree that it will thin out as the entries go higher, and that if you come early you are definitely guaranteed a spot.
Will be there Sat, for limit event.
