obviously guarantees attract people. however, they are risky for some casinos. sometimes the casino can take a decent sized hit.

alot of people in AC don't like the Taj so they just won't pay attention to their schedule. so they could up a big guaranteee but it does not make it a slamdunk to hit it. or say you have a 2500 buy in and you guarantee 750K people might not just show up because 2500 is alot of dough to most people and they don't want to risk it.

guarantees are good for drawing crowds but long run the casino cannot afford a bunch of overlays. so i think they basically are just a tool to make sure a crowd they can expect will show up or increase it alot. they are a bit risky to a casino like the Taj whose tourney attendence is somewhat spotty. and obviously its not horrible for the business if once or twice a year you get hit on an overlay due to weather or some other event.

However, from my expert surveying of the tourney scene the way to get crowds is call it a deepstack or a megastack or whatever and people see it as a value and show up.

To be honest if the Taj were smarter, and they are not, they would drop the Turbo and 6 max stuff as only the places that draw really big crowds can pull these off with any size (personally i love 6 max but i think there were 50 peoples at the taj last time for that event.

Tell Taj to fix their structures first, then worry about the guarantees...

A much bigger problem is just getting the word out. I still can't find this on the Taj site.
I was at Foxwoods a few months ago for their O/8 tourney.
Don't go there often. Saw a few people I've played with in AC. I mentioned that the Taj had an O/8 tourney coming up in the beginning of Nov. No one knew. It wasn't posted yet on their site.

For a $350 - $1,000 buy-in you get a lot of people that enjoy the game, but not mostly real pros like a $2,500 - $10,000 or more buy-in would draw. If it is not your life, then you need more time to plan. This is true at any east coast casino

Got a question. I didn't really bother with the USPC but Rounder was calling them "bracelet events". Were they in fact awarding bracelets?

Yes. The USPC has always awarded breacelets for all of the event winners.

You could check with the Medical Examiner's Office. Two murders at the Taj in the last year. Attendance at the USPC and the Trump Classic have been in free fall for years since ESPN stopped taping the USPC.
The Taj was the gold standard 15 years ago. But with the Trump casinos constantly in bankrupty, no money is spent on upkeep. The place is a toilet.
There's a rumor going around that guys don't bother visiting the mens room at night. They just piss in the corner and maintenance hoses the place down overnight. I played there for years. Not going back.

im not a huge fan of the Taj. but i would not really consider its not unsafe or anything. they actually did spend quite a bit of money remodeling rooms and building some new restaraunts a couple years back (however, the money on the restaurants seems like a big mistake considering most of them seem empty all of the time.) but yeah, would have been nice if they could have spent some dough on new tables and new chairs. (they did get new chips for the USPC though)

Besides the buy-in and entry fees, online ticket sales providers charge a fee of 3%-6%. So, there is a $30 online ticket charge for a $1,000 buy-in.
That's nuts. You can buy the ticket in person at the tournament registration desk without fear of ever being shut out at the Taj.

why in the hell would this get 185 no one is going to play sattys.

a 750 on a saturday got like 115 players.. 2500 is alot of money to most people. people dont like the taj. 50 alot more likely. only reason the 5k at the uspc got 180 or whatever is because its supposedly going to be on tv.

if this gets 185 ill take a piss in the middle of the taj.
