WSOP dealers (bad dealers in particular)

I would like to make a suggestion.... Unlike many others, my suggestion is to the players!

Estimated dealers wsop hired =1400+ this year, that's a lot of temporary employees, and the bad ones are used throughout all tourneys.... That said,

Give them a break and let's all try to POLITELYhelp them out a little here and there.

It's easy to get flustered when your new at anything and bitching at new dealers just compounds the issue. The complaining becomes part of the problem!

So politely (aka non-Boston style) giving them tips and instructions will get you more hands/hour and help prevent more mistakes.

Note- a calm and helpful voice will go a long way! Think Men Nguyen v Andy Bloch.... They both may think the dealer is horrible but Andy will calmly correct a mistake and inform them how to correct the issue... 'the master' on the other hand will cuss and yell at the dealer, cause them to freeze up and have to call the floor over something simple...

Example tip: we can all inform our 'new/bad' dealers to use their cut card to help scoop up the cards after washing them... A simple trick many aren't aware of that is very helpful (especially with the very thick and slick wsop cards this year).

Thanks to those of you that understand and help speed up the learning process for these dealers because they aren't going anywhere,

Beau

Even though it seems like there are several issues at this years wsop. If you really need to blame someone, blame the management, not the dealers!

Mostly hired temporary just for 1,5 months they must be able to deal 10 different poker variants?

Hey guys, this is a great post.

I would also like ot mention that you should PLEASE TELL THE FLOOR if a dealer is doing a GOOD JOB as well as when they are bad.
It takes 5 seconds of your time and goes a long way towards helping these guys have a good day. I made mention of 2 really good dealers yesterday and both times the floor's eyes lit up like "wtf you gave them a compliment that never happens! awesome"

Also remember to tip after binking (so saying I have to go tip as ai forgot last night) thanks for reminding me!

So funny related story - playing 2/5 our table went from one amazing lightning-fast experienced dealer to a young girl probably in her first week of dealing poker live. She had just come from an Omaha game and was making mistake after mistake - missing raises and starting the deal out the flop prematurely, etc. After 15 minutes I joked, "if you're going to make a mistake, you should forget to collect the rake." Her face went white. She had just come from a time-rake game and hadn't collected any that down. Me and my big mouth.

Re: WSOP dealers (bad dealers in particular)

Just played in a 10/20 mixed game. it was stud at the time when a new dealer (w) sat down. first hand she wants to deal a flop. whole table yells to stop. She stops.
Idiot player comments: "why they always give us the worst dealers in the world?"
dealer starts to cry.

So unnecessary.
tryin to deal flops in stud games happened at least 5 times that day. i can understand it! dealers deal flop games 98% of the time. its just routine to do so...

And wsop players wonder why the wsop can't get experienced quality dealers to travel across the country to deal the biggest deal in poker.

LOL at you!!

no way this jerk never apologized for anything (there was a lot to apologize for)

i have also never seen him give ANY tips in this session (about 4 hours)

there are so much more douchebag players than bad dealers, even at this years wsop.

Re: WSOP dealers (bad dealers in particular)

Clear lack of training when it comes to counting down big all ins. This is really frustrating when you are on the losing end of a close all in deep in a tourney and you're not sure if you just busted. Watching an incompetent dealer try to gather groups of 1k in a spattering of randomly placed piles is unacceptable.

Sorry, but I cannot go along with this. I was there in the first weeks, and it was sad. I will never again spend $1,500 and risk having to train newly hatched dealers in what is supposed to be the premier poker venue of the year..
What's next.. are we players supposed to take out the garbage? Help deliver cocktails?

I usually attend a couple early events, vacate, and come back later. But next year, no early. And if I hear things haven't changed, I can do without the WSOP all together.

"Thanks to those of you that understand and help speed up the learning process for these dealers because they aren't going anywhere,..."

Then I expect players will be going places other than the Rio.

Re: WSOP dealers (bad dealers in particular)

I played in the 1K, Main Event, Several Cash games including 2-5 and PLO, and STT. Maybe 10 percent were slow or could not count the change to give back when someone raises 1125 and someone calls with 1500. Then again most poker players I would be have a hard time figuring it out.
I did not see any horrific dealers. Talking to one of them about it, they stated alot got sent home in the first few weeks.
Overall, the tournaments and cash games were very efficient operation and they did a great job.

This!!! As an experienced, knowledgeable dealer, I have said this for years. Why in the hell would the best dealers come to the WSOP to get treated like crap and get stiffed pot after pot, when they can work at a fancy room, deal the biggest games (with little to no horrible treatment) and make money? Its not logical for a good dealer to come put up with that garbage. Its not 100% the players fault that the best dealers stopped coming, but its a major factor. Notice that ShaunTheDealer, one of the best, has retired a 2nd time?
