There seems to be indication in a variety of places that credit cards can now be used to enter WSOP events up to $10K if the player goes through online registration and the FastTac system.

Does anyone know if tourney registrations made through credit-cards are still treated as cash advances by the credit card company, or are they now just regular purchases (the APR is typically vastly different)?

If they are now purchases, does anyone know what sort of merchandise/service category the WSOP would fall under for credit-card rewards purposes?

There was discussion of this last year. I know from personal experience that entries put on a card issued by a bank with a five-letter name beginning with C that they were treated as purchases. I do not recall how they coded out for category though...

I've deliberately avoided naming the bank because we don't want them to get the bright idea of treating entry fees as a cash advance.

That doesn't have anything to do with purchases made by credit card. I was under the impression that if you purchase with a CC you are more limited, but perhaps I'm wrong. For instance, if you purchase flight 1A with cash, you can show up and unregister or re-register for another flight up until some timeperiod (I don't recall off the top of my head), and you will get your cash back, or have it used for the re-registration). I don't know if the same is exactly true if you purchased through CC. Would they need to do some sort of credit transaction and then a second debit?

How does what I posted not have anything to do with purchases by credit card? It's explicit. You can unregister and get a refund of the buyin (meaning minus the processing fee). You can then register for any other event, and if you do so via credit card, pay the processing fee.

With credit card you don't get back the fee when cancel, you can't move registration to a different event (refund is only option) and last year it took a while for some refunds. Example had a cancellation on June 10th and got the void then, July 6 notified of the refund and July 7th had it showing on my statement.

Last year I wired monies for an event and withdrew 3 days before.

Received the entire amount immediately for further use; of course I still had to pay the wire fees which were not a problem.

Maybe the first time you use one and/or maybe the first year it was implemented two years ago.

Yeah they have to verify the card but once that's done registration is instantaneous.

And also can I pay for someone else's registration with a credit card if both of us are present in person. Example: my horse is buying in for the Main and I pay my $3,000 for my 30% share in credit card and he pays the other $7,000 in cash or lammers.

The idea is obviously to leverage credit card cashback/bonus offers rather than buy-in on credit for buying-in on credit's sake.

This is the first year credit cards can be used in person. The info to answer your questions hasn't been published yet and is probably subject to change until registration actually opens, so will be tough to find a good answer just yet.

As of what is published now, the online version has a $6 fee, plus 2.95% fee for credit card payments (3.95% in AMEX). I don't see why in person it would be much different, but just speculating.

My opinion is I would be very surprised if they allow third-party credit cards.

By the time he pays the fee, the value of any loyalty program isn't going to be worth it, so it's moot.

Much depends on the specific rewards structure...there are still some out there where the rewards overcome the nominal fee...and, at least on the cards I carry, since the fee is included in the purchase price, those ALSO factored in for rewards purposes.

Yea, the idea is obviously to get multiple cards that offer promos, such as $300-$500 for spending $4,000 in 3 months and so forth. Not absorb the fees for 1.5% or 2% cashback, which would not be profitable obvi.

Are you truly able to register with a CC at the Rio the day of the tournament as referenced a few posts above?

yes. In fact, I actually was standing in line to confirm the credit card when I registered for the Seniors event...I had waited since I did not know if their system would kick out an entry prior to the 50th birthday (I literally turned 50 on Friday). Had the confirmation email back as I stood in line and then just had to show the card at the counter along with ID.

Once the card is registered and confirmed, then you should be able to do any initial entry at the kiosks. Since I only fired one bullet in that event, I cannot speak to re-entry at the windows using a card...I know that late-reg did not appear to be an option through the BPL website because I looked as I did my tilt-steam-walk trying to determine if I wanted to fire the second bullet. I was briefly in line to hit the window and then bailed when I rationalized that push-fold is not my strength and with the blinds where they were, it was not worth an extra grand.

couple of questions:

1) what's the difference between purchase and cash advance when paying with cc?

2) i purchased my ticket online for monster stack, but did so to avoid long lines as i heard big fields have super long lines, but it looks like we still have to go to the WSOP total rewards/fasttrac area to check in and get out table/seat. I arrive the morning of and am wondering if I will get screwed over time wise? anyone have any insight on how long this checkin process will take?

3) anyone know if wsop will send a bunch of promos and crap via mail if we register online? is there a way to opt out?
