None. Its just what I think based on my analysis. I am perfectly open to being wrong and wouldn't be shocked if I were.

I know most rec players don't care so much about rake. However, in order to get a really huge field there will have to be much more than just rec players. I think players who DO care about rake will look at this and say, "non thanks" in lieu of other low cost options.

Perusing the DDS results from last year, the 9pm $365 Turbo numbers were not particularly inspiring. I don't know to what degree we can we glean what will happen at 7:00pm in the GIANT, but I don't see why it would be a world of difference. Frankly, branding it the "Giant" and modifying the structure like they have seems to be little more than a veiled attempt at boosting the dead money they get with people who buy into these late-day tourneys. I suppose It might work a little, but I just don't see how this is going to cause a heck of a lot of buzz.

You have to work pretty hard at it to get drunk there. Drink service is slow and inconsistent. I think they avoid the tournament tables because so often when they get back, the player has moved or busted.

I'm sure this Finnish fellow had his drunk on well before he sat down.
They cut him off after 2 or 3 drinks on day one, since he was firmly grabbing the upper arms of both masseuses(?) and waitresses (not in a threatening way).

There was that story about the drunk guy on day 1 of the main event.

This ^^^^^ . Good observation. If they get 2,000 players they will be happy. But I suspect they will get between 6,000 and 9,000.

They won't be happy with only 2,000. They call it The Giant because they expected it to be huge but not Colossus big. If they get under 10,000 uniques, and they will get far less, they'll be disappointed. I'm guessing it will be so bad they won't bring it back next year.

Dneg complained about Colossus being too cheap when it first came out. Does anyone follow him on twitter or anything and know if he has weighed in on The Giant?

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

The "Giant" will be a good case study in marketing. On its merits, it seems like the tourney should be a relative dud... nothing much more interesting than the other nightly DDS tourneys they have. But the WSOP put the word "Giant" on it. Based on similar tourneys and the other events going on on that Friday 7/7, I think 2000 total entries is a fair estimate. If they get much more than that, it will certainly be a testament to the power of slogans.

How can you say nothing more interesting than nightly DDS when even with your low estimate of 2000 entries, you are looking at a $125k or so top prize in a 365

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

I predict way fewer entries than other people are predicting. This is basically a 7pm Daily Deepstack that happens to award a bracelet, oh and you have to come back up to a month later if you make Day 2. I just don't see throngs of people, reg lines clear down the hall, for a Friday 7 p.m. $365er. But, I guess we'll see......

Where did you get $125k for 1st with 2k entries?
If they use the same payout for the deep stacks it would only be $86k.

I suspect they will juice it up a bit from there to around $96k though if it only has 2k entries.

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

Great idea. Let some guy actually owning 100% of his action win a bracelet. Same thing with the $565 BI. I don't like watching a bunch of mediocre poker players/extraordinary beggars get all the glory for winning WSOP events when they are paying 30-50% of the buy-in. Can't wait until the LV ban on staking goes into effect. Random rant, sorry, but I'll definitely be playing this deepstack turbo.

I said "nothing much more interesting", meaning I believe it will be a little bit more interesting, but not anything to get too excited bout.

Without commenting on the merits of staking arrangements, and as someone who has never been staked (I don't feel comfortable playing with other people's money), are you correct that LV is considering banning it? Are there any links to this news? Is this being considered on a larger scale (Nevada, elsewhere) or just LV?

It would certainly get Caesars and the WSOP off the hook for their borderline illegal practice of not allowing the requisite IRS forms for staking arrangement payouts.

What difference does it make to you how someone gets the buyin? How does that change the "glory" of a win? Isn't the accomplishment of winning first place still a remarkable achievement requiring a great deal of skill and luck regardless of who fronted the money?

For the record, I never get staked in what I play but I don't have anything against those who do. As previously asked, where did you hear about a ban on staking? How would such a ban be enforced? I think your anger towards staking is bizarre.

EDIT: I googled "poker staking ban" and it seems Nevada had a bill in 2015 that seemed like it would ban staking. Legal experts weighed in and said it would not ban it. I don't have the time to dig further to see if it passed or not.

I really would like to see how exactly they plan on enforcing a no staking if they made it a law.

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

Meh, the hotel deals at WSOP page are awful. I just compared few deals and they ask really high price.

If you book via wsop.com, then u will lose around 300-500$ per 11day booking. Guys, use skyscanner.net or momondo.com to book cheap hotels (they compare the biggest sites online, like hotels.com, booking.com etc and show you the cheapest deal available).

I know WSOP starts at 30.May, but is there little bit more action since 25.April till the 30.May?
I mean, is there standard action like now, or littlebit more?
I have nothing to do at home, then i thoght that i will go to Vegas earlier for 10weeks or so.

Any info is welcome. Thx

What is the one table satellite situtation for the Venetian Deep Stacks series?

Also, what's the multi-table satellite situation for WSOP? I'm aware 1 table sattys go all the time, in addition to multi tables for the main, but are there 'round the clock multi table satellites for the other events?

Turbo No-Limit Hold'em Mega Satellites May 31 - July 6:
$185 Buy-In Mega Satellites Daily at 9 AM (10 entries = $1,500 entry + 100 cash)

Just the 8pm megas most days, what games they are and such are listed on the last page of the WSOP pdf: http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/schedules/schedule_1352.pdf

I have played in a single table satellite at the Venetian, but not lately. I believe it was on an as needed basis.

Before the main event(end) the daily MTT satellites go with the $500's and $1000's at 8 PM on a daily basis. Go to the WSOP and the schedule should clarify exactly the times of the MTT satellites.

Also, these dailies give $5000 and $10000 in tournament chips respectively whereas just prior to the main, the $500's give $10000 in tournament chips. Therefore previously 1 in 10 and at the end 1 in 20 for the $500's.

[QUOTE=Win2014WSOP;51683677]What is the one table satellite situtation for the Venetian Deep Stacks series?

VDS used to have a dedicated section to single table satellites about 4-5 years ago, and they used to be popular. I haven't really seen them go as much in the last few years, maybe due to table availability issues. Not sure if the Venetian is going to add tables again during WSOP, I'm guessing they will since the new poker room configuration actually has less tables.

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

Thanks for the info guys. My gameplan right now is to rent a long term apt for the month, grind MTT sattys the first half of the month at least, sell the lammers mostly, and mix in some shot taking in regular tournaments.
