Fear of terrorists is so irrational it's silly. You're not afraid of lightning are you? That 15 more times likely to happen.
Im sure thats what many have said before they were maimed or lost a loved one. Berlin Christmas market, Florida night club, the numerous schools with active shooters, the movies, the Boston Marathon, concerts in Paris or Manchester... there are so many examples. Even if the added security doesnt stop a.single threat, its because it is no longer considered a soft target.

I agree that its more likely to die walking the streets in Baltimore or Detroit at night. But the reason many people dont die there is because they avoid it. Or if we use your lightning example, would you agree you increase your chances of getting hit holding on to a 20' metal rod standing on a hill during a thunderstorm?!

The reason there arent more attacks is that they are thwarted in advance. Not walking streets in Balt or Detriot after dark. Not holding a metal rod in a thunderstorm... preventing or at least limiting the chances of occurrence.

The single point I agree on is that we cannot live in fear.

But if you have credible evidence that something could, possibly happen... then why not decrease the chances of it happening. Use my example above if you need.

Anyways, enough derail...

If you have already gone thru a checkpoint to enter a secure area, why would "roving" dogs then be necessary? Maybe because TSA misses 95+% of banned items? If the area isn't actually secured, then having a few dogs sniffing the halls isn't going to make it close to 100% secure.

I think most poker players prefer liberty to "security," at least compared to the average Vegas guest.

This guy gets it!

And I think part of my issue is the San Bernardino attack happened in the building literally next door to where I took some satellite grad school classes. So it hit very close to home for me.

Actually, if your chart is correct, the first two are both terrorist attacks and should be combined to be equally likely as the right wing extremist thing.

And you keep mentioning fear but no one is saying they are afraid. Again, it's about taking precautionary measures to limit any potential risk. Again, it's the same as putting on your seatbelt just in case something should happen and not because you're afraid you're going to die every time you get in a car.

But I feel like we're going around in circles now. You've made your point, I've made mine and it seems we're at an impasse. I'll let this be the end of what I say about the security at WSOP.

I'm heading out there on Tuesday and can't wait to win all my bracelets this year!

There were several bomb sniffing dogs "wandering" around the WSOP area last year every day. There will be more this year. Count on it. I would be willing to bet that within 2 years there will be restrictions on back packs entering the area.

The comments regarding checkpoints and the density of people is definitely an issue. People are always backed up at check points with large lines and a target rich environment. Try getting into a football stadium for an NFL game - A terrorist does not have to get past the check point - they just have to approach the queue for the check point....

I am not letting terrorist activity deter me from playing tournaments however to assume that a well publicized event public event (soft target) such as the WSOP would not be a target is a mistake.

I would say the Rio is less likely to be attacked. It's off-strip and there aren't babies and children at the WSOP. The video showed the Strip and Bellagio. The fountains are a much more attractive target than the WSOP.

I would like to see armed security guards walking around. i feel like this is a great way to deter people from causing trouble.

I visited Fort McDowell casino in Arizona and the first thing I saw as I walked up was a big sign that said something about it being a weapon free zone. I visited Commerce casino in California and the first thing I saw as I walked in was a beefy security guard with a sidearm. Which would you rather target?

I remember the brief paranoia when the "bomb" sniffing dogs first arrived at Wsop, not because of weapons, but because everyone thought they were gonna get busted with weed.

It's simple physics. That's what people don't know or don't understand.

There's no airplanes to be highjacked at WSOP, so a metal detector/bomb dogs would be useless in preventing lives being taken. I don't think the terrorists would care if they would kill people in the Amazon room or in the waiting line at this "checkpoint".
The WSOP wouldn't be my first target in Vegas if I were a terrorist. EDC sounds like a better target. Maybe NYNY for symbolic reasons. A major boxing or UFC event.

The goal is maximum chaos, not maximum damage. If I were going to attack airport security lines, I'd do it Thanksgiving weekend, in order to disrupt the most travel plans.

For the $1000 tag team event is that per player or just $1000 for the total team?

Hi, does anyone know the rules regarding Apple Watches during the WSOP. Can I wear my Apple Watch with the notifications (such as text messages) turned on?

I obviously won't be communicating with anyone at the table

Thanks

WSOP related question!! Do you receive tier credits/reward credits for WSOP buyin's? If so how many?
Is the 15% payout structure staying for all events this year?

Get 5 reward credits per $1 paid in rake for BIs (so $100 rake = $5), dunno about tier credits.

I remember some manner of credits last year, but could not tell you how many there were. They also SHOULD post for Circuit events...

Will I also earn Tier Credits from my WSOP poker play?
Yes! You currently earn Tier Credits for your everyday live poker play, and now you will also earn Tier Credits for WSOP events. The Tier Credits you earn will vary based on the type of event and buy-in.

Whatever amount you get, it will be minimal. If they used the "slot formula" of 1 TC per $5 wagered, if you paid $2k in tournament fees that would be 400 TC.

I know the link mentions 2014 but I doubt any of this got better.

I'm sure it's fine since phones are allowed. Probably same rule of not being able to use it while in a hand.

I got diamond last summer just from bracelet events buyins. So, it's possible.

what happens to a player who advances to day 2 in a tournament but leaves and does not play.

i'm thinking of a case where players that finish day 1 with a small stack may leave town or otherwise miss the 2nd day.

I assume they get blinded out - but how do payouts work? Do they just mail a check to an address on file for the registered player? Or does a player have to be there in person to get paid after they are eliminated?
