Either way ,thanks to this thread I was able to book a room with flights that was the cheapest and also seemingly matched my poker interests in terms of what is being offered during the series. I ended up selecting to go 6/28-7/5. It gave me an extra day off without wasting a vaca day due to July 4th. I was initially worried about it being too late into the series as I usually go in mid-late June but it seems like this time frame will give similar options to someone in my shoes. I usually play MTTs between $200-600.

Anyways, right now I went ahead and booked a room for 7 days at the Rio. In the past, I've always split my time up because I like to spend some time downtown for the cheap table games and a fun 1/2 game at the Nugget. Last year, I spent 3 days at the Linq and 2 days at the Four Queens. It a pretty fun trip, mainly b/c I could drunkenly play some 1/1 cash at the Linq and also some loose 1/2 games at the Flamingo. On top of that, I had a nice cash at an event at the Wynn and made it to day 2 at PH. The Linq was a fun middle spot to get to all of those places.

Based on my travel time and the schedules that all of you great people have posted, I'm thinking I'll play in the Grand Series ME and maybe a Wynn event if it times up when their schedule releases. I'll probably play a daily DS at the Rio since I'll be staying there and I guess I'll mainly play cash there too. I guess my concern is the cash games at the Rio compared to other less popular casinos. I'm sure they'll be juicyyyyyy but one thing I liked about playing at the less popular casinos is that they were less popular which meant a bit less action but also a lot less aggression, which made it fun for me. Any advice on these? I'm guessing I'd just have to adjust to the table liek at any other time and just wait on getting paid. Also, any other suggestions on being out in Vegas at this time??

Also, I paid about $520 for 7 nights at Rio. I could have stayed downtown for $400 but am I getting totally screwed at this price? All I want is a place to stay and I like to play downtown but last time at the Linq with Flamingo close by, it was convenient having other games around

Thanks!!
I wouldn't say you're getting "totally screwed," but that's not a terrific price. Especially once you include $25ish resort fees per day. Check Hotwire at for that date range....since you won't be attached to the Rio for your tourneys.

Cash games at Rio will be full of action and aggression, most likely. Haha.

Best of luck, have fun!!

I just noticed that Caesars is being really smart this year. The WSOP Seniors event starts on Friday, June 16. On Saturday, June 17, there is a one-day Seniors event ($520+80) as part of the Planet Hollywood Goliath series -- so players who bomb out of the WSOP Seniors on Friday have another Seniors event they can play in on Saturday. Naturally, rather be playing Day 2 of the WSOP Seniors on Saturday, but it's nice to have that consolation tournament option -- and smart planning (for a change) by the folks at Caesars. Nice.

That was likely all the doing of PH and had no input from Caesars.

Hotel prices are way up this year. Gone are the days of $35 rooms, so his price is pretty good considering it has 2 weekend days.

That's not "Caesars" per se, being smart. It's the PHo TD. He schedules the PHo events.

Aria actually was showing two events...you missed the second one set for the 19th (it is also a $465)

Thanks for the advice! I actually ended up switching my reservationn to Harrahs. It's pretty close to where I was last year at the Linq so I'll have closer access to the lighter 1/2 games at Flamingo and Harrahs. Don't get me wrong, the cash action at the Rio will be a lot of fun but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy a tamer table too. The Linq's 1/1 game is fun too.

After booking, I ended up only paying $432 for seven nights at Harrahs which is nice because it's cheaper. I may still try to call ahead of time to get some more stuff comp'd. The total for the rooms only ended up being $171 but the resort fees bit me at $210.

At checkin simply tell the clerk that you have a future reservation and your friend has one in between and ask them to merge all your reservations. I have done this past few years with my buddy (both of you needed at checkin) and they can merge them into 1 long reservation, no need to change rooms, constantly check in/out etc....

thanks! When I was booking earlier, there were definitely a lot of comped day. I actually broke off my reservation at Rio and went with Harrahs for like $432, that's including resort fees. I went straight through TR. Unfortunately, i'm flying solo as of now so I can't piggyback and rewards off of anyone at the moment but I'm thinking I may call and see if they'll discount me anymore. Can't hurt to ask!

I wish that I could keep checking the offers made through TR after I have already booked a room. I don't want to wait too long and have rates go up but at the same time, after I cancelled @Rio, when I checked this week, the rates were already down. I feel like I'm in that same boat now. Even thought I'm going for like $70 cheaper, who's to say they won't offer even cheaper now haha.

You can cancel up to 72 hours prior to arrival. You can also check your rates even though you have a reservation. If you find the rate drops cancel and rebook under new rate online (you can also call to have the rate changed but i find it easier to do it all online).

I do this every year, book when i know my dates of travel and then constantly check if rates have gone down and rebook under the better rate if one is available.

Really?! Every time I try to book through TR it tells me that I have already reserved rooms during those dates so it won't give me updates. Any advice for that?

Instead of using exact dates, choose "flexible dates" and view the rates for the month.

Hi, am trying to follow the online reg for WSOP using BravoPoker and it doesn't seem to have a 'register now' button where I can register? I have a TR account, am signed up to BravoPoker, still no joy.

I'll be driving into LV on 5th july and want to enter the $365 (purely to experience a bracelet event, no matter how prestigious or not) - bankroll didn't allow for the main event and I can't get in any of the 1000-1500 events due to timings.

Is registration open? I'm in the UK so if it is open, is it only open to US citizens?

Cheers!

You are correct it won't actually let you book, you will get that message when you hit book. All you want to do is see if the rates are cheaper, if they are then open a new tab in browser, cancel the old room in the new tab, then hit the book button in the other tab.

Works for me but I'm not responsible if you mess it up .

wsop.com/2017 says that "the dates for online registration will be announced shortly". I received a Total Rewards email which stated that registration will open "in April".

This is my 1st dedicated trip to WSOP.

I poked around a bit on 2+2 for info on Bravo Poker Live as a means to not carry around too much cash. I did not find much. Do folks generally avoid it and just use a credit card to register online once registration opens?

Thanks.

Many, many people carry around a great deal of cash .Last year was the first for credit cards and so probably less now. You can't play in a cash game via credit card.

Depends upon what and how many tournaments you plan to play and wiring the money is worthwhile as if you change your mind you can get the refund before the event, in cash.

Personally, I haven't reached the stage for credit cards as you can't get an immediate refund and have to go through a third party.

You would be adding about 3% juice to all your tournament entries. That's a lot.

The time where it's really useful is there at the WSOP when you're on the spot. Like when the registration line for a Daily Deepstack is an hour long. It would be worth giving up 3% to quickly get your seat. I don't use a smart phone though, so I'm outta luck.

I'm making plans for a return trip the weekend of July 14-16 (it's a convention for my son and more poker for me!). The Main Event will be in day 5, 6, and 7. Will the Daily Deep Stacks still be running at the Rio -- and if so, do you expect that they will be particularly large, or small, because of the dwindling number of players still in the Main Event and the absence of any other bracelet events running at the same time?

According to this they run through July 17, but I've been there at the end and there is way lower turnout.

Yep. The Little One for One Drop may have the turnout around those days a bit higher this year, but the DDS drop way down once the Main is rolling.

Pretty standard around Vegas these days, most of the major strip hotels are even higher. At least parking is still free.

Do the cages at the WSOP withhold tax from your winnings or do they give you tax paperwork? Example if player X wins 20k can he go to the window and get all 20K or do they withhold tax on the spot? This is for a US player.

They are obligated to withhold on winnings above a net $5000 . They produce the tax forms on site .

I believe that you can deny the withholding by signing a form and will receive the forms with zero withholding . I could be wrong on this.

Of course this is only the case in a tournament win.
