WSOP- 2017 ? WSOP- 2017 ?

Again it is time for many players (mainly casual ) to plan for vacation dates and travel arrangement for 2017 WSOP .

They use to announce in January but lately every year it is getting later and later.

This create a huge hassle of players with Jobs and players who are travelling form out of USA.

Any insights about dates or announcement of 2017 WSOP schedule ?

Actually, 7 or 8 years ago, the full schedule was released before Christmas...

The WSOP tweeted about an "announcement" next week, with some "key dates" for the 2017 edition (probably the dates for the Main, Colossus, Seniors and some others events).
I don't expect the full schedule to be available before late January, at best.

The key dates will help in planning.

The terrible news is that the WSOP has ruined the Seniors Event by making it reentry! My friends and I will never play the WSOP Seniors Event ever again unless it becomes a freezeout again.

I think the WSOP is using the Seniors Reentry as a trial balloon. If seniors are apathetic like US players after UIEGA and don't object, then the reentry virus will spread throughout the entire WSOP.

I've heard a few people complain about this. I prefer freeze outs too but why so against a one time reentry?

I just can't imagine _that_ many Senior's joining the lines at the cage, to re-enter an event where the blinds and antes have already pushed them out. Maybe, if they get coolered in the first level, and there're no lines.

Wouldn't this appeal more to the younger 'guns' ... in the open events?

Yeah, re-entry events only seem to get a lot of re-entries when you get a ton of chips, like the Orleans Friday night or the Daily Deepstacks.

I agree with the notion of preferring a freeze-out, but I simply don't see that long of a line forming for a $1K re-entry...even if I get coolered, I would still have to evaluate how I had been playing to that point and whether there was any chance of reasonable play after the re-entry. It isn't worth $1K to re-enter just to be in shove or fold mode...

Any hue and cry would seem to be much ado about nothing...

I love re-entries in general. Bigger prizepools, you don't have to go home if you came a long way to play, and generally worse play during the re-entry period from people who are willing to re-enter if they bust.

The one time I am against re-entries is for WSOP bracelet events. If a bracelet means anything anymore, then everyone should have 1 shot per event to take it down. And the beauty of the WSOP series is if you bust a tournament, there are a gazillion more for you to play. With that said, I can live with it in the restricted events (seniors, ladies, casino employees) that don't count towards bracelet records, but I still think it diminishes something, and it would be very disappointing for it to be rolled out to all events. Unlike most venues, the WSOP doesn't have a prizepool issue. They don't even guarantee most of the events!

The proliferation of bracelet events alone has watered down the meaningfulness of those bracelet records. However, I do agree, bracelet events ought to be freeze-outs.

That's in a perfect world, of course. The things is, the WSOP is owned by a casino/hotel enterprise which couldn't care less about poker. I imagine there are individuals within the WSOP who do care, but the parent organization, as a whole, does not, above and beyond the ability to make a good profit from it. There's nothing ethically wrong with that, but we, as poker players, need to realize its rare that the WSOP makes decisions which are in the best interest of the game, particularly when doing so would hurt profits.

Its no secret that Caesars has been trying to sell the WSOP. So, they're going to do everything in their power to maximize the real and imagined value of that asset. If that means increasing revenues by a small percentage by introducing more re-entries, they will do that.

Having dealt the Senior events many times on the circuit and at the WSOP, I can make 2 guarantees on my observations:

1. You won't get that many re-entries.

2. Players tend to be on time compared to the open events.

I like a diverse selection. Make a few of the events re-entry [Especially the smaller buy-ins where you tend to have shallower stacks anyways]. Only thing I would be absolutely against is making the Main Event a re-entry but I think there would be a massive backlash if the WSOP attempted that.

In February, they agreed that the ideal timing for a full schedule release would be by Xmas...

Last year the Main Event was played from July 9-18. This year, July 8-17. Same number of days --> Nov 9 still a thing almost for sure.

Pretty sure I heard 2017 is the last year of the ESPN TV deal. Confirm anyone?

Yes, through 2017. This is probably the last year the WSOP looks anything like it has over the last 12 years or so.

I'm 50 on May 7 - that will be the best chance for a bracelet for either of us. After that it's all downhill.

Fantastic! For the 3rd consecutive year, the Seniors Event starts the day that Electric Daisy opens at the racetrack, meaning, that, for the 3rd consecutive year, the Seniors will be in town on the week with the highest hotel rates of the summer, and the week that most of the major acts on the strip take a vacation.

Thanks for nothing, WSOP.

You say "the WSOP" like it will be all of it, but do you just mean the Main event?
As almost all the other events don't get proper ESPN coverage.

No, I mean all of it. If the WSOP gets sold I think a lot of things will change... perhaps even the venue. Of course, there's a lot of uncertainty about when that might happen.

Obviously the venue changes if it gets sold. I just hope it stays in LV.
