The first day or two is really weird. There's almost nobody there, but you know in just a few days it will be a mob scene.

Don't leave a wad of cash under your bed, especially if you take the friendly girls back to your room!

If you have any reasonable amount of cash with you, don't tell the friendly girls!

Don't take 2 friendly girls back to your room at once! One keeps you busy and the other fleeces you!

Don't believe the old wives' (or in this case old man's) tale about giving the friendly girl a tournament chip.

Bally's is my favorite in terms of convenience, cost and room design. They also have a 12ft deep pool if you like to swim.

Gold Coast is great if you are really trying to budget and the walk to the Rio is very convenient.

As several other posters have noted, the Rio sucks. I think everyone makes the mistake of staying there at least once (I know I did-never again). Literally the only good thing I can say about it is that it was nice to be able to roll up early in the morning and preregister for tourneys. However, registering the night before and leaving to stay someplace nicer is a way better option.

I like to drive, but Vegas is one of the few cities that I loathe driving in. I find it way more convenient to use cabs/Uber when I'm in town. I usually don't stay in Vegas longer than a week, though-for lengthier stays renting a car may be a better/less expensive option.

I have not been to Vegas during the start of the series yet, and this post is really making me want to try and make it work this year!

I have to really disagree with this. There have been several incidents discussed on the forums where money was stolen from room safes. The hotel will do nothing to compensate you if this happens. My advice is if you have a substantial amount of cash or valuables you need to secure, get a safe deposit box at the cage or ask to use the hotel safe.

Don't believe sad stories at the airport from guys who need to borrow $300 so that they can get home, and will promise to pay you back later.

Showing up during the Colossus would be an interesting time, just need to avoid the hallways during the break.

What tourney without "WSOP" attached to it is like WSOP?

There is a reason they get away with any changes good/bad. The Name still holds strong

First post on this forum but Ive always enjoyed the information.

Been going to the wsop for almost 20 years. My biggest battles, as Ive gotten older, are fatigue and back pain. Last year I decided to get up at 6am and go to red rock canyon for a hike each morning. I would then go for breakfast and go back to sleep around 930am for a couple of hours. During the tournament i would spend 5-10 minutes each break doing stretches. (Sitting hunched over for 12 hours a day when your 6'5" at a poker table not so great). This worked out great for me in terms of physical well being.

The hotel advice given by others is spot on. The RIO is pretty bad, in my opinion.

Pretty psyched. Just booked 6/21 to 7/1 at the Westgate, via Southwest, thanks to this thread. First WSOP, pretty excited. Will be there for business (annual conference for professional organization), but that will be over 6/25 and then the real deal begins. Looking to play in the 1K event on the 26th to burst my cherry. Would love to make friends, or even potentially roomshare to further cut down on costs. So, if you're interested, hit me up. Good luck everyone!!!

My advice would be get familiar with uber pickup locations. Each hotel has a designated spot for uber pickup and drop off. I saved a ton of money taking uber vs a cab. I.E I took uber from the airport to the rio at just under 16 bucks. Friend took a cab from the airport 55 dollars plus tip. Cash games are gunna be wait listed like a mah'****a tbh so just take that into consideration. That being said had an awesome time at my first wsop last year, cant wait for june to hit so we can run it back!

Sounds like he got longhauled.

Where does uber drop you off? Same place they pick up, or at the front door?

Just booked the Flamingo for the Colossus weekend. Super Excited! this is my first WSOP. Plan to play the Colossus 1 or 2 flights and have my own Fear and Loathing experience.

Can't wait! Wanted to play the WSOP for years. This will be my second time in vegas but the first time I didn't play any poker.

Each spot is kinda different, rio pickup and dropoff is on the side by the shuttle. I would just ask concierge or valet they generally know whats up.

I am kinda interested to see what kinda surge pricing will be going on during wsop because they could be a complete game changer

My best advice is if you are playing a big event, and nature calls, leave the table a few minutes before the scheduled break. The lines are astronomically long.

You say, "No tunnels, please." Make sure they hear you.

This is true. Surging could make Cabs on par or even at times, cheaper

Bring a hoodie or light jacket. It's usually quite cold at the tables.

+1 to advice on registering at night.
+1 for bolting to the restroom w/ 1 or 2 minutes left in the level especially if you fold out of a hand.

yeah it can be especially cold if you're in front of an ac vent. I like to bring a portable charge pack for my phone as well.

I drive up from AZ so I have my car, so I usually head out to dinner, if nothing else just to get out of the casino for awhile. The poker kitchen at the Rio is a good option if you don't want to leave, lots of choices but a bit overpriced.
