Don't know if this is the right place. This year will be my 1st WSOP trip, only plan on staying for a week(week of Colossus). Any info or tips you guys can give me. Would you stay at the Rio? If not where, somewhere middle of the road $$. TBH, I'm a cash player and will probably spend more time playing cash than tournaments.
Thanks

I always stay at ballys. Right in the middle of the strip and I was paying $60 or so a night on avg with the wsop rates they offer. Rooms are clean, and good for what you are paying. Also a free shuttle that runs every 30 min to the rio.

Def 100% worth it. Cheap but not cheap.

Also register the night before for your events, you will always dodge lines by doing that.

Gold Coast is a good option. Ez walk to Rio, save on Cabs. There is also a bus at Rio that will go to the strip every 15 min's

Thanks for the info, do you know if they have a promo code for room rates?

If you're a cash game player I don't think there's much reason to stay at the Rio. Rio is convenient if you're playing lots of tourneys, especially the Deepstacks that run super late at night and you just want to stumble back to your room. But in my admittedly-limited experience with the 1-3 and 2-5 tables at the WSOP, the cash games there are not the softest in town. Of course, you might love them and play there the whole time. But if you don't, and you want to wander and play a few different games, the Rio is not particularly convenient.

I haven't checked rates for that week, but for mid-priced hotels on the Strip I have found the rooms to be unremarkable but fine at Monte Carlo (close to Aria, PH, even Bellagio), Bally's (same, but also closer to Caesar's & Rio), and TI (close to Venetian if you're not an Adelson boycotter, Mirage, Wynn).

You'd be better to reg the Colossus as early as you can. Last year. the lines were at their longest the night before.
As it goes, the Las Vegas Lifestyle forum was probably the best place to post btw.

I've stayed at the Rio 2 out of the last 4 years. Regretted it both times.

Having gone the last two years for similar length stays and objectives, I would recommend either Bally's or Harrahs on the strip as they are lower cost, right in the action and have the aforementioned shuttle to the Rio. If you have friends that are staying for the summer you could also just stay with them but I assume if that were an option there would be no need for the post.

Rio cash games are obviously gold but don't forget about Venetian or Bellagio depending on what games/stakes you are playing. Sometimes the cash game wait lists can be a total cluster**** especially during the larger field events when all the tables are being used for Colossus, MIlly Maker, Monster stack etc.

I typically stay at Ballys. Its no Aria/Bellagio/Venetian, but its fine. Its incredible it has become Caesars' least expensive option. I imagine they'll do a renovation at some point in the future to put an end to that.

Anyhow, Ballys is pretty convenient to just about all the poker venues. If you have a TR card and have attained Platinum status (the second lowest), Caesars will comp or give you big discounts mid-week which will likely make for a lower avg/night than the WSOP-rate.

Otherwise the WSOP-rates at Ballys/PH/Paris/Harrahs/Flamingo/Quad will probably be a fair bit less expensive than anything else you'll find on the main strip.

The Rio is a **** hole and there are much better options as others have said but of course being on site does have its advantages. I stayed there a week at the start of the WSOP last year but then moved to the Strip and it was a much more enjoyable experience.

i like flamingo. but it depends if you are looking for convenience or price or what. if you're playing cash it depends where and what stakes/games too.

They always have a promo for wsop rates.

Also I barely play table games at a Caesar property ($100-$1000) max ever on a table for me and I've gotten many free rooms to use with them. Combine them with the wsop rate and you basically get paid to stay there.

Again I think ballys is 100% the best option. You can cut through Paris (it's connected) and walk right out and you are right at planet Hollywood for their series of tourneys. And the fact that a shuttle to the rio is always running , save mad $ from no cabs.

Ballys ballys ballys!

My tip is to choose a different week. As mentioned above, wait times are hours long. You won't easily be able to change casinos without a couple hours of downtime in between.

Yep same here. Never again, gotta get away from that place during wsop. Gold Coast, Bally's, PH in any order works for me.

If you're not concerned with being on the strip, Gold Coast is the best budget option. The walk to/from Rio is really quick and easy.

If you want to be on the strip, I've always stayed at the IP/Quad/Linq and have no problem recommending it. The place has a lot of haters, but I suspect most of them have not stayed there since their massive renovation. I'll say that the rooms are pretty small, but nice. It's in a good central location and you can make 80% of the walk to the shuttle at Bally's indoors.

There's also a shuttle at Harrah's, which is closer, but I prefer taking it from Bally's because it's a straight shot over the highway overpass to Rio. The Harrah's shuttle has to take some backroads, and sometimes makes a stop along the way.

I love the "home field" aspect of staying at Rio but I'm definitely considering staying somewhere else this year.

I like a good pool scene too, but may not have the "horses" with me to do one of the pool parties.

I may have to hit the Wynn. Some the European milfs come there looking to hook up imo

Westgate (formerly LVH) offers a $17 a night deal through southwest.com in june/july on sun-thurs.

- Fly free on southwest.com (if you have points)
- Stay at LVH for 5 nights and SUV pre-pay $189 avis.com rental.

Total =less than $300 and you have a SUV to scoot around in.

Or you can do $60 for 5 nights at Ballys - just sayin'

This. I wasn't in Vegas for Collossus but I saw on bravo that every room had every table full with 50+ people on the list. I would highly recommend waiting for the schedule to come out and seeing if there is a different time you could visit. Like the $777 tournament last year. It had a good field size but not so huge that you couldn't find a game anywhere. Or even play a $1k event and just sell some action to your friends or something if the buy in is too high.

Collossus has a pretty fast structure so if you don't run very well in the tournament, you could end up spending most of your trip standing around awkwardly waiting to get in a cash game. That would suck.

Palms Place pretty good too. I'd go back in a flash, altho this year the wife is coming for a bit, so we're going to stay on Strip.

Agree 100%. I usually go for a week in mid or end of June, if I bust out of my tournament early, there's always a cash game I can get into quickly. I played in the deep stack fiasco 2 years ago, and after that mess and chaos I'm staying as far away from the colossus as I can.

Ballys or Harrahs are good. Casino Royale is my top choice. Rooms prices are comparable to Caesars properties after you factor in resort fees. The rooms are nice, small but nice. Can't say much for the casino and there's no poker but Venetian poker room is a 5 min walk and Harrahs is 30 feet away. You can also catch the Rio shuttle at Harrahs next door.
