hey guys,
I'm a poker floor manager in a hotel resort, once a week we are holding a poker satellite tournament for our poker festival, the package $3100 value. Normally we make an unlimited $50 re-buy tournament $100 entry fee, around 30-40 players each week, 2 packages per week, the rest of the money goes as cash prize.
But now the management wants to make a new structure for the game, 1 package guaranteed per week ($100 entry $50 re-buy)and rest of the money goes to revenue, lets say if we have over 30 players, there is no point to make re-buy anymore, because its not going to the pool. Do you think its going to kill the game??????

IMO yes it will kill your game because it turns it into a winner take all.

Really depends on who your players are. Are your players actual poker players or guys on vacation who saw a sign about a poker tournament and have a few hours to kill while their wives get massages?

Those guys really don't care about the prize as long as you aren't taking a 100% rake. Guys who want to make money playing poker won't come to it any longer.

Sounds like a rake that 'management' does not want to call rake...its money off the table that the players won't see. Will it keep everyone from playing? Not at all. But it has a very real potential to harm the number of rebuys, at least after the first event under that structure, when players realize they have no chance at getting some of the excess cash.

To quote from "Shark Tank" - "for those reasons, I'm out"

Seems like this will either piss off the players, or if many of them are regulars, will give them an excellent incentive to collude and screw the poker room. Just a bad idea.

I think it's terrible for poker and pretty unethical but...your players probably won't care so if you only care about the bottom line, go for it.

That's obscene. Probably wouldn't even be legal in the U.S. It depends on how used to being gouged your players are. It violates the whole precept of what casino poker is - players vs players with the house taking a percentage for hosting the game.
