If you arrive between about 9AM and 3PM so you don't get caught in morning rush hour, evening rush hour, or construction traffic. Starting around 4PM traffic really starts to pick up. If you can arrive in that window, then either Dallas Forth Worth (D/FW) International or Dallas Love Field work.

Both are about 1.5 hr (or about 15 min less) from the casino.

However, with DFW you are highway driving the entire time. With Love Field, there is a bit of city driving (not too much) to get out to the highway.

Also, there is a tone of highway construction around here these days. There is slightly less consutrction around DFW going to I35 than there is to drive up through Dallas on I35 from Love Field. So, it is kind of a crap shoot on if the drive takes less time for one vs the other these days.

However, if you get in during evening rush hour(s), you could easily add an extra 30-50 minutes to the drive. So, I think flight time is really more important than airport.

As to transportation, a rental car is probably your best bet. Taxi's are about $100 one way.

How was last Sunday's Mega? I am planning to come to the first one in August.

Last Sunday, 365 runners, 73 people walked with 2100 in River Lammers. 40 of those walked with $500 cash as well.

Next Mega is Sunday, July 22.

Love Field is about 10 minutes further than DFW. Rush hour traffic is going to be bad from either one as both share much of the same route, but I suspect rush hour will be a bit worse from Love Field. Note: Rush Hour on I-35 is generally 4PM - 6:30PM, except on Friday when it is more like 3:00pm until 7:00pm (barring no major accidents).

The 5k looks awesome (27th), but what is going on between it's day 1 and the ME (30th)?

Is the 5k scheduled to be a 3 day event? Will there be Megas on the 28th and 29th? I don't see an event on the schedule.

No idea what is on the 28th...I'd assume they just added that day in there to ensure no one would be forced to skip day 1a of main if the 5k FT overlapped to the 28th?

Booked my flight for this, excited. Going to be staying in Dallas, hopefully the driving isn't too brutal

Dallas isn't a bad drive in the morning but driving the 75 minutes at 1-2am after playing all day kinda sucks. Also depends heavily on where in Dallas you are staying. Lewisville isn't a bad drive at all. If you are staying with a friend who lives 15-20min off the highway you will hate it on late nights.

Stay in Denton or Gainesville IMO.

Denton has many more restaurants/things to do and is a college town so has decent night life (although it is summer).... Denton is about 35 minutes from winstar.

Gainesville is my 2nd best option for the area, it is much smaller, but has plenty of restaurants and hotels and is only 10 minutes of interstate driving from winstar.


Very nice poker room at the winstar... a lot of cash games running especially on the weekends. Its not abnormal for the 1/2 list to be a hour+ wait on weekend evenings/nights. They have about 50 cash tables full at that time with 1/2-5/10 NLHE. Im not sure about stakes but they always have a PLO H/L around these time too I think it's somewhere around 2/4-5/10. I'm guessing they might have larger games running than 5/10 with all the extra River series traffic.
