Hey guys,

I am flying to Vegas for 2 weeks of WSOP. While I have played WSOP before, I have wondered what the most profitable options are during that time. I am a winning recreational player with a lot of live experience in NL cash, PLO cash and NL MTT's.

I am looking to play MTT's in the range of $1,000 - $3,500 and cash games with corresponding buy in sizes, that is $2-5 (deep) to $10-25.

What are your opinions of the most profitable options during 6/26-7/12?
Which rooms do you prefer for what games and why?

Thanks
Rob

If you are comfortable switching between tournament mode and cash mode, then there's no reason why you couldn't or shouldn't do both. Just be careful not to spew money in the cash game because you got knocked out of a tourney and are on tilt.

During your timeframe, there are a number of good NLH tournament options in the $1-3.5K range at the WSOP, Venetian, PH and Wynn.

Kenny (of last year's November 9) was kind enough to once again put together his Vegas summer schedule aggregation file which you can get at:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8f949eiqi7...2017.xlsx?dl=0

Here are some events which fit your schedule and price-range...

1) starting 6/26 ... The Venetian has a NLH $3500 with 3MM guarantee, (3 day tourney with 3 day 1 flights).

2) starting 6/27 PH has their NLH Main Event at $2000 with a $2MM guarantee. (3 day tourney, with 5 starting flights over 3 days)

3) ON 7/3, 5, 6 and 7 The Venetian has single-day NLH bounty tourneys with buy-ins between $1100 and $1600. Check their schedule for details.

4) starting 7/4 The Wynn has its NLH ME with $1600 buy in and 1MM guarantee, (3 day tourney with 3 day 1 flights).

5) The WSOP will obviously have a number of NLH tourneys in the $1K+ range during that timeframe, too. IMO the other tournaments mentioned here are better value given their structure and large guaranteed prizepools.

6) If you're willing to dip down to the $500-600 buy-in range, there are a few other good options at the Golden Nugget, Aria, Venetian and Wynn. Check Kenny's spreadsheet for schedules. I think he also provides links to details on the venues' sites.

Most of the tourneys mentioned here will draw really big fields, so they can be extremely profitable, if its in the cards.

As for room preferences, The Venetian will tend to have the most experienced fields, though it is also the best run room, IMO. I'm always amazed at how smoothly things go considering the never-ending space crunch that they operate under. Their cash and tourney areas are in the same place, so there's no need to wander if you bounce out of a tourney and want to play cash. However, they will obviously have fewer cash games going on those days when they have a large field expected for a NLH tourney. The cash games tend to increase throughout the day as tourney entrants bust.

The Wynn is relatively new to the large-field MTT game, however their new poker room at Encore is really great. I'm not sure, however, if it will be used for cash during the series. So, bouncing into cash from a tourney may require a walk from Encore to the Wynn. (not necessarily a bad thing, to decompress)

PH has been holding large-field MTTs for several years now and they have tons of space available to them up on the Mezz level. They continue to attract huge fields, but they also seem to have constant issues, whether its lighting, or last-minute schedule/structure changes, etc, etc. These things are less important than their overall structures and guarantees, of course, and these are both very good. Hopefully they have learned from their past mistakes and things will run more smoothly this year. Unless something has changed in the last few months, their cash area is downstairs next to the Pleasure Pit. There are some peripheral perks to this location, however its on a pretty noisy casino floor, especially after 8:00 pm when the house dj starts spinning his endless supply of Usher.

If you're looking for the softest cash games, the Rio is probably where you want to play. But be prepared for a lot of crazy play and the variance it creates.

Aria and Bellagio also have very good cash games, though you will run into a lot of talent in those rooms. Be sure to spot the sucker(s) as quickly as possible, or get off the table, because it'll be you.

Not anymore! All in the same area this year. Cash in the poker room and tourney just outside in Encore Players Lounge.

Ok, I stand corrected. The new poker room is very nice, and players should definitely check it out.

Mtts are the most profitable because the stakes are so high at later levels but cash is nice because it is very hard to lose in those games.

I spent around 8 days last year. Went a little overboard with MTT's (playing two a day).

I could squeeze 4/5 sessions of cash which were very profitable. But, I felt very burnt out with the volume of MTT's. In my opinion one tournament a day is good enough.

As the cash games are good in the later part of the day and MTT's start between 11 and Noon. I would allocate the day time for MTT's and evenings for cash.

On the last day I couldn't do it anymore, so, went to see the Bellagio Fountains and felt very relaxed.

All the rooms are good and the lists keep growing longer. If you bust early find a cozy room and settle in. With such long lists, no room is a bad room to play in my opinion.

OP, if you will be out there for 2 weeks, I definitely recommend taking a day off here or there from poker. There are millions of other things to do, and I think you will both be happier and play better if you don't burn yourself out. My first trip out to the WSOP was over 3 weeks and I played some form of poker (be it MTT, Sit N' Go or cash) every day for at least 8 hours each day, and usually closer to 12. By the end of the trip, I didn't want to see another flop and actually had to take a few weeks off just to decompress.

In recent years, I have been going out to the WSOP for 4 or even 5 weeks, but I make sure to schedule at least a handful of non-poker days off during that time, and it makes for a much better experience, regardless of how the poker goes.
