My thought process in the hand: I'm getting > 3:1 on a call in position when its opened to 750. I can easily fold if i don't flop anything. Once the button 3 bets small to 2050, I'm then getting 5:1 on a call. The button was relatively tight so when he flats my bet on the flop i figure he most likely has AA, KK, or QQ w/ a diamond because it was the first time he 3 bet the whole day.
Just a straight cooler or should I have played differently?
Mistake #1 calling 750 preflop with only 19k. Should have folded.
Mistake #2 calling 1300 more preflop. With 89, if 3 bettor has AK, you lose when it comes TJQ. Getting 5-1 is nothing. It is over 10-1 to flop 2pr or better.
Once you see the flop, your lead bet is correct. And then your shove on turn is correct also.
I had similar hand in 2005 WSOP main. Back then you only started with 10k in chips. I had about 11k with blinds 200-400/50. I open late with Qs9s to 1100. button calls. Flop is 6s 4s 2s. I lead for 2,000. he calls. turn is Ah. I lead for 5,000 with 2k behind. He puts me allin. I assume he has AsKx. I call. He shows As Js and I am done. I later calculated odds of me having two spades, then him calling my raise he has to have AsTs, AsJs, or AsKs and then us flopping a flush to be 1 in 14,000
