Now that the WSOP has forever ruined its Seniors Event by making it reentry, I have been looking for other Seniors Events that my friends will go to instead, ideally without the 30% US tax. Please add any more you find out.

If you are interested in sharing travel expenses, please PM me.
  1. February 12, 2017: Playground Poker Club, Canada; $145.50+$19.50, 11.8% rake, FREEZEOUT; $15,000 Gtd, 20,000 chips, 20-minute levels. This is the fourth Seniors at PG within 12 months.

  2. April 2, 3 pm: Irish Poker Open, NM Seniors; €300+€30, 20,000 chips, 30 min.

  3. April 2, 5 pm: Irish Poker Open, IO Seniors; €250+€25, 15,000 chips, 30 min.

  4. PokerStars Panama

  5. PokerStars Macau

  6. PokerStars Monaco

  7. PokerStars Barcelona

It's a single re-entry. I don't think that will ruin it. Most people will only be willing to fire a single bullet.

Concur with this...even the PLO circuit event at Hammond had only a handful of re-entries.

With the structure being what it is at WSOP for the Seniors Event, the only ones it might make sense to even think about re-entry will be those seriously coolered in the first few levels and who might have time to do something other than fold or shove...

Lots of players come to Vegas purely for the Seniors event.
Having it a SINGLE re-entry is a good thing. It saves them having to make it day 1A and B.

My only complaint with this event is the date. It used to be early June now is on Father's day weekend.

That's my goal this year. Last year I played in both the WSOP and Planet Hollywood event.

I will never play the Seniors Event or other WSOP Event until it returns to a freezeout, but here are the details of the Seniors Events that I am considering playing.

Not playing a poker tournament because it's a single reentry sounds like something an old nitty fart would say. Good grief.

We will coming down to Vegas specifically for the WSOP seniors and super seniors. (last year there were nine of us)
Would also like to play in other senior tournaments.

Will the Wynn, Venetian, and Aria be having senior events the days prior?

It seemed to work well last year. I think it's great that we can all get on the same page and create a "Seniors Week".

We also have a $50k Seniors coming up on February 24th for anyone that will be in LV.

Just made reservations for Senior event. I have wanted to play it for a few years but the timing never worked. The re-entry option is irrelevant to me. The object is still to play smart, build a stack, and bag some chips. The only time the reentry option makes a difference is if you're super short after 2 or 3 levels and you're more willing to shove and hope (and rebuy if necessary). Looking forward to it.

There were 462 players in the WSOP-C Potawatomi Seniors Event. The prize pool was $192,400 in the $200 + $50 event, with 20% rake.

Hopefully, there will also be Seniors Events in WSOP-C Campione and Estoril.

A single re-entry "forever ruins" it? A little dramatic and over-the-top reaction don't you think?

Lol no better way to prove you are an old fart than to swear off the worlds softest $1k field because "dang almighty they done ruined it and made it one of them there rebuys!"

I believe all tournaments should be freezeouts, but I wouldn't say the Senior is "ruined" because of one rebuy. If you really want to ruin it make it a Quantum Rebuy or unlimited rebuys. How would you feel if the Main Event had a rebuy? I would think there'd be a riot. The prevalence of rebuys is there so the owners can make more money and get the runners excited about a fattened prize pool. Someone commented that a single rebuy is good because you can treat the rebuy as a "new tournament" expecially if your Aces just got coolered in level 2. I never thought of it that way but I am kind of warming up to that idea. By the way, I am an old nit.

Not to dwell on semantics, but it's a reentry not a rebuy. A reentry you must lose all your chips, walk back to the cage, register again and as you said you are treated as a new player with a new seat assignment and fresh stack.

A rebuy you stay in the same seat at the same table and don't even necessarily have to lose all your chips in order to rebuy.

There's obviously a big difference and most people use the terms reentry and rebuy interchangeably even though they are different, again not to dwell on semantics.

This is also the weekend of the EDC when all the hotels have jacked up their rates.

PokerStars changed the Panama Seniors Event from 11.8%-raked $330 to 19.2%-raked $120 with re-entry. Three of my friends cashed in the final eight.

PokerStars has also changed the Seniors Events in Macau and Monaco. The next Seniors Event my friends and I will play is on April 2 at the Irish Poker Open (€312 + €38, 10.9% rake; 20,000 chips).

Quote:
  • March 12, PokerStars Championship Panama, March 10-20; $291+$39, 11.8% rake, 10,000 chips, 20 min.

  • April 2: Irish Poker Open, March 27 - April 4; NM Seniors (3 pm, €300+€30, 20K, 30 min) & IO Seniors (5 pm, €250+€25, 15K).

Fair play to you, this is an incredible effort to make to suppprt these seniors tourneys, you must really hate playing vs young people! I really dont think a single reentry will ruin your tourney. Dont see why it would be any less fun and dont think it would impact your edge either way too much. Not sure why you are so rake-obsessed, surely the rake of flying there and booking hotels to play such a small buyin makes the actual rake pretty insignificant.

What is the most common thing that younger people do at the table that tilts you? Want to make sure im accommodating

It is absolutely not JUST semantics. The reason so many tourneys now have reentry is because the casino gets another rake. Rebuys on the other hand are much better for the player (Senior or not) because all of the rebuy goes to the pool!

If all tournaments were freezeouts, then most guarantees/prize pools would be a fraction of what they are. If one is playing "for fun", then it shouldn't matter whether re-entries exist. If one is playing "for money", then I don't think having much smaller prize pools is a benefit to the bottom line of anyone.

For some reason they keep scheduling the Seniors event to coincide with a few days when there are all these really scantily clad coeds running around Vegas (even more than usual). Pure coincidence, or public service to the seniors community? Who's to say?

Pro-tip: some with discretionary income do precisely that. Older people tend to have that luxury...
