Re: Rio Daily Deepstacks (during wsop)

I never claimed it was going to work 100% of the time.

I played in one a couple of years ago and flopped top two pair with KQs. I got three streets of value out from AK. I was up to 50k by the first break from a couple other spots. If you have a little luck, play well, and know what value betting means, you can build a big stack pretty quick because the fields are so soft.

The best way to build a big stack is to not bluff much at all and value bet big. Try to see as many flops as you can with speculative hands and value bet the crap out of them when they hit. People play WAY too lose early on and they are doing their best to give their money away. Baby pocket pairs are gold - if you hit a set you can get someone's whole stack if you play it right.
thx, good advice, I've been shocked by the caliber of play and I consider myself mediocre.

On a side note, has anyone found a better place to register than in the Pavilion room? I stood in line for an hour yesterday and got three people from the window and they said the tourney was sold out. Seems crazy they have so few windows for signing up, room for much improvement by the Rio on this issue

Regular Cash out and sign up for events room never has a line.

You can sign up in the main registration room where you sign up for WSOP events. you can also sign up starting the night before.

I guess I overlooked your reply, where is this room? The only other one I can think of is by the main registration, but it had a line every time I've been there

It's on the other side of payouts and across from the reward card line.

Re: Rio Daily Deepstacks (during wsop)

Need to petition to have the structure of these things to be changed. They need to be remain being 1-day tournaments, but the structure at the end needs to be improved.

Start the blinds at 150/300/25 and play this level for the first 2 hours (through late registration). This would result in a higher bustout rate in the initial 2 hours and therefore will have more reentries making for a larger prize pool.

With a faster bustout rate, that will allow for more of the intermediate levels to be added that will help balance the average stack toward the end of the tournament.

I think the levels should remain as is through Level 8. Add 1,200/2,400, 2,500/5,000, 5k/10k, 12k//24k, 25k/50k. Etc.

Also to preserve the structure of the tournament, have the dealers with a clock and start having the dealers put players on the clock themselves. 1 minute to act on your hand and you get 3 lammers of some type for extensions that can be used at any point in the tournament. No need for 7 minutes hands in a turbo.

Thoughts?

Re: Rio Daily Deepstacks (during wsop)

That's a good idea but so many fish wouldn't play a structure like that. They LOVE the "deepstack" idea of getting a lot of chips and starting at 25/50. Idk how many people told me that the deepstack structures were better than the WSOP events just bc of the larger starting stack and starting 400 bbs deep

Re: Rio Daily Deepstacks (during wsop)

I don't know if this is necessarily the place to post this but the lead floorguy for the 2pm deepstack this year, Casey, passed away after being in a coma for a few weeks. Casey really knew what he was doing and did a good job/was a really nice guy in all my interactions with him. Sad story.
