Question about Joseph Cheong Question about Joseph Cheong

I remember seeing Joseph "subiime" Cheong just run over 2010 WSOP ME FT until the end, and finishing 3rd for 4 milly

Just randomly came across his hendon mob and wondering how someone who has played as high as he has been takes the time to play in a < $1k buyin tourney?

There aren't big money tournaments all the time. Besides, maybe he just likes playing tournaments.

He owed lots of money at one point iirc . That could put a dent in someone's winnings

Possibilities:

1) Likes playing tournaments
2) Was staked for the 4 mil payout and didn't get anywhere near that much in the end
3) Run bad
4) Degen habits in other things

In that order

The last poker night in America at Choctaw Durant they had a $100($25) event..I think it was either $100k or $200k Guarantee. Phil Helmuth was one table over from me and shot atleast 2 bullets that I saw, and others said 4 bullets. Anyway, I doubt it was because that's what he can afford...

Helmuth is in some way affiliated with Poker Night in America.

David Williams has been playing in nightlies and the $235 daily rio deep stacks

Doesn't mean they are broke or close to it, but makes you wonder. If I was an elite MTT pro, I sure as hell wouldn't play anything less than 3k or 4k outside some super huge field 1ks. Waste of my time.

Yes he is, but still weird seeing him play a $125 tourney.

The pros you see playing low buy ins are the true ambassadors to the game IMO

If one is only playing for money, and if one is rich, then yes, these tourneys would be a waste of time. But if one really enjoys playing poker, or if one likes spending time with different kinds of people than the ones you see in high buy-in events, then there are plenty of reasons to play the lower stakes games. Playing at these lower levels also helps a person build their discipline to play right, no matter the stakes.

It's pretty common to see big names in Vegas outside of the summer.
Dennis Phillips, Dan Heimiller and Carlos Mortensen normally play any event $400+ at VDS and I regularly played with David Williams and Cheong at the old Caesars poker room.
