Thanks. I figured it was something like that, though I thought there would be three day ones and it would be scheduled to finish on day 3. It makes sense they would need a fourth day considering how deep the starting structure is.
My personal feeling is the length of this event makes it less appealing. I can understand how a professional might appreciate such a slow structure from the beginning. However, as a rec player myself, its difficult to take so much time off from my day job. Its looking like one is going to have to play the better part of two days, mid-week, just to make the money. I understand the appeal to some, but that's quite a grind.
If they had 40 minute levels day one, they could afford to have 3 day ones (wed/thu/fri, for instance), and then the tourney would wrap up by Sunday. Rec players could come for the Friday flight. Having played tourneys with all sorts of starting structure, I feel like 40-45 minute day one levels is right in the sweetspot. Not too fast to make it a donkfest. And not so slow that the time investment becomes a chore.
I have no idea if Resorts would be able to handle a tourney that is really appealing to rec players, so maybe they're not necessarily looking to get a massive field. But this definitely seems like it will be a pro-heavy event. Anyhow, I'm sure it will be fun for those that play it.
