Hi all,

Maybe I'm just being dumb or it's too early on a Monday morning for my brain, but the recent PS festival Main Event won by Sam Grafton...it had 736 runners paying 1100 euros each (1000+100), but the prizefund was only 706,560 euros...

Now my maths is **** at the best of times, but...what am I missing here??

Cheers,
Andy

I just know this from the Kings Casino in Rozvadov (CZ) that they cut some percentage of the pricepool as another casino-rake or probably as a regulated, country-related tax-thing..., even after you already payed a Buyin-Fee (Buyin + Buyin-Fee).

CHeers nanana, makes sense (but horrible). I haven't noticed it before (which is bad, as it's my job to know these things and tell others, not to have to ask others!)

4% of the prize pool will be withheld to cover the costs of Tournament Staff

Why is it presented in this way? Why don't live poker operators just show the prices in - what seems to me - to be a more transparent manner of (amount to prize pool) + (amount of fees)?

To make the rake look lower I guess. Also saying 10% rake + 4% for staff sounds better than 14% rake

So it's basically a 960+140 (15% rake lol).

Taking x% on top of the rake to pay for tournament staff (what's the rake for then?) is just a way to make the fee sound less big. It's become pretty standard to do it this way. Personally I just look at the total fees, whatever they call them.

I don't understand why people play these Greedstars festivals anyway. With the ever-growing rake, faster structures and ridiculously large payout %, what's the point?

So what is the 10% paying for then, if not the staff?

I get setting up an event might be expensive, but this should be including in the rake. Given that a lof of these tournaments are televised they are also getting in money from TV stations. Where does that money go to?

PS is not a charity. They expect to make profit in addition to paying for the staff.

No idea about Bucharest but pretty sure at Kings it has nothing to do with taxes or regulation, it's just a hidden money grab, because LT is not rich enough, apparently. Other casinos do this also.

Tbh these smaller buy ins have a lot of value for someone that really just wants to use it as a vacation and meet up with poker friends. I've been to about 20 and for the most part had a lot of fun.
The rising costs and lack of sponsored entertainment have been the primary reason I stopped going.
