Was in Cleveland this morning playing their main event Day 1A they only have a total of 40 players at the dinner break. 300K GUARANTEE ON THIS!
They may only get to 200 players or so for this! Could be HUGE OVERLAY!

First ever post on 2p2, tells people about possible huge overlay in a tournament...yeah, I'm sure you're just looking out for other players, you definitely don't work for the casino.

(In case anyone takes this seriously-it's a 1k with 4 day 1s, today was the first day 1, and the tournament takes place over 2 weekends (day 1s are Fri/Sat/Sun/Fri), so there's a very slim chance of any actual amount of overlay here.)

Yes it is over 2 weekends but if the fields stay at a super low turnout like it might be then there might be a big overlay.

I don't remember the last time I saw a huge overlay... in other words one that really made a significant material difference to players. In fact, the last time I saw a tourney have such a bad turnout (due to a snowstorm) that they wouldn't even reach half the guarantee, they just cancelled the thing. Overlays are highly overrated, and over-hyped by TDs who are trying to compensate for poor planning and/or poor luck.

That was a pretty solid one: https://www.pokernews.com/news/2014/...po-1-19154.htm

The venetian main last weekend had a decent overlay of 200K.

OP there is a big difference between "HUGE Overlay Projected" and "might be a big overlay"

Are you involved with the tournament at all?

Lol, yes its pretty clear he works for the casino and was not a player in this tournament.

There will likely be an overlay, we'll see how big it is. Bad schedule, lack of promotion likely to blame.

Interesting how they set it up , Fr Sa Sun, Fr to get 40 min levels. I think a 200k might've been a better choice than 300 though, established tours that get 350 plus routinely usually only guarantee 100k or 200k.

While we're on the subject, I think since significant overlays are very rare, poker players should not openly root for them. Even when they are small, they force casinos to become more conservative in their guarantee offerings, and this directly leads to smaller fields and smaller prize pools.

There should be a significant overlay. They had 47, 71 and 30 (at 5:00 pm when I left) players the first three days of the tournament. They were going to cap day 4 at 180 players but are not going to now with the numbers being so low. They will use the promotional fund (what they call the bad beat drop) to make up the difference. With the rake, they needed 360 players to make their nut.

It looks like they have about a 60k overlay right now but with reentries and late registration it should be reduced even further.

Zero overlay if they got 200 entries yesterday.

To play devil's advocate, there could have been a huge projection of overlay leading to more players playing the event beyond what was originally projected leading to the guarantee being covered.

I think that's the point of projecting a HUGE overlay.
