Yes, this is correct, and this is how most HPT events are run.

I know one life nit shouldn't give another life nit advice, but check out alamo.com's Last Minute rental car deals. I picked up a car for Friday-Sunday for $43.95 including all taxes.

Oh, that's through Monday? Then that's a definite win. I'm a convert. I'm getting $58 when I pull it up on Enterprise, though... how do you get $50?

Info from HPT regarding $250k guarantee
The HPT production truck has arrived in Albuquerque and we're all set to film our 200th episode on Monday, July 30 at Route 66 Casino . A $250,000 prize pool guarantee in the Main Event will ensure our landmark episode is action-packed. Poker pro Greg "Fossilman" Raymer will lend some star power to the event.
"Our event in New Mexico is especially meaningful for all of us in the HPT family," said Jen Mastrud, HPT Director of Operations. "The HPT team has dedicated several years to producing and perfecting the very best poker tour and TV program. Our 200th episode is more exciting than ever."
Qualifying events are underway at Route 66 Casino for as little as $65. The two-day Main Event, with a $250,000 prize pool guarantee, will kick off on Friday, July 27. Play will continue until a champion is crowned on camera Monday, July 30. During filming of the 200th episode, seats are available in the live audience on a first-come, first-served basis. For tournament information, please visit HPTpoker.com.
Oh Ship!
Play the "Sunday Ship It" at Route 66 for a chance to win a cruise package for two on "HPT on the High Seas". Details here.
We're in Good Hands
Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. recently acquired Federated Sports & Gaming and Federated Heartland - parent companies of the Heartland Poker Tour. "We are excited to welcome the skilled HPT team to the Pinnacle family and lend our support to enhancing an already popular and established brand," said Ginny Shanks, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Pinnacle Entertainment.
Our highly experienced team is led by newly-promoted Director of Operations Jen Mastrud and includes commentator Fred Bevill, promoted to Director of Media Productions and Executive Producer; his original on-air partner Chris Hanson (not pictured), long-time Tour Manager Dave Quenette; and On-Air Floor Director Jaymz Larson. Additionally, the entire HPT technical crew continues to crisscross the country together to capture the action for broadcast.
"We have 104 televised events under our belts," said Bevill, "we're looking forward to crowning at least 104 more champions." To date, HPT has awarded more than $35 million.
UPDATE: Turning Stone Casino Resort
We regret to announce that our event at Turning Stone in Verona, New York has been removed from our 2012 schedule. Our 2013 tour schedule is currently in development and includes a tentative date for Turning Stone. If you made plans to travel to New York for the event next month, be assured the popular Empire State Poker Championship is happening as planned. All other HPT events on our schedule are also happening as planned. View the rest of the Season 8 schedule here.
Now Available
Schedules are now posted for our upcoming events in Daytona Beach and St Louis. The schedule will be available any day for our event at Golden Gates Casino & Poker Parlour in Black Hawk, Colorado. We are putting the finishing touches on an expanded schedule of cash tournaments throughout that popular event.

If anybody has any recommendations for places to eat, love to hear it in the thread. I particularly favor the kind of places that are on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, as well as ethnic food.
Thanks, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Greg,
Cecilia's Cafe is an old-school diner downtown that is pretty well-regarded. Went there in May and food was pretty good, some Mexican flavor thrown in alongside the standard diner fare they offer.
Cecilia's was on a busy street running parallel to the UNM campus that had a lot of other apparently good restaurant/bar options. Pretty sure it was 6th Street. Don't know how close the casino is to campus, though.

WTF? When did you live in NM? I lived in Santa Fe for bout 2.5 years combined from 2001-2005.
Greg,
Definitely hit up the Frontier on Central right by UNM. Open 24 hours. If you bust early, the best burger on the planet is available at Bobcat Bite on Old Las Vegas Highway about 10 miles east of Santa Fe.

The Standard Diner on Central is a safe bet. Sofia's on 4th st. is great for breakfast if you're feeling adventurous. Enjoy abq. I've seen several posts noting the poor service and general laziness. I just call it layed back. Don't get in a hurray and don't expect anyone else to.
