Yup. Also, he's saying, "I'll double up now and serve my one-orbit penalty when the hand ends." OP called and drew out on him, he hit the rail grumbling about the donk who called with a pair of 8s after he showed the Q.

That's very common in tournaments.

I've encountered this at one place that has a no cell phone rule for everything, but just about everywhere else I've never heard of this. Would be stunned if this was actually the standard.

I work at Winstar casino.

From the 2012 WSOP rules:

Quote:
vi. Collusion includes, but is not limited to, acts such as: chip dumping; soft play; sharing card information with another
Participant; sending or receiving signals from or to another Participant; the use of electronic communication with the
intent to facilitate collusion; and any other act that Rio and WSOP deem inappropriate.

It's also forbidden at Venetian and Aria. If you're on your phone in any way during a tournament, they can kill your hand. And for WSOP, there is no phone use allowed at all once you're ITM, even if you don't have a hand.

WSOP rules citation? What is not allowed ITM is "iPods, MP3 and other music player or noise-reduction headsets" per WSOP 2012 Rules # 62.

W/r phones, WSOP, like most venues, does not allow talking on the phone at the table, and doesn't allow texting/emailing while you have cards in front of you. This is true in or out of the money. (WSOP 2012 Rules #61.)

Meanwhile, 2012 World Series of Poker® Official Tournament Rules:
OK, I'm playing in a Friday afternoon tournament at an illegal poker venue in Dallas. The four seat goes all in, he is a maniac. I look down at AKs, I have him covered. The ten seat has me covered, it is a good-looking lady and she has her hands folded in front of her. I go all-in and turn over my hand...the lady unfolds her hand, shows her cards, calls all in and the floor in one breath. The floor comes over, the lady explains I showed my hand while she was still to act, the floor mucks my hand, the lady turns over a small pocket pair. I was irate, but the floor said it was the rule...I vowed never to play there again. They were having a $300 tournament that Saturday, like every month, and which I always bought into. Everyone said my hand should not have been mucked, but there it was. I never played there again.

As an aside, that tournament got raided by the Dallas police (an episode of cops, the SWAT team bravely, in full faux-military regalia, with cameras and everything stormed the room and courageously milled around while the players were being processed) and everything confiscated. I don't know what the final facts were, but everyone got their money back, and the episode never showed. By stealing my $100, the guys at Aces in Dallas saved me a hassle with the police.

Have you been to Dallas or even Texas or does a single post about a poorly run illegal poker room tell you all you need to know?
