Not exactly entertaining, but to their credit, I got a response to my questions about a) Why any pics of former Full Tilt Pros and b) Especially, why would they want to appear to be associated w/ Howard Lederer. The email response is below:

Thank you for your e-mail. Let me start by saying that the pictures you have mentioned are now no longer on the GN website. As for the reason they were there is that they were older pictures form past years. Not to do with anything Full-Tilt but for a very worthy charity tournament for Boys and Girls Club that we have run in the past as part of the GPS. This particular charity was supported by some of the FT players. Each year we do a variety of charity events during the GPS as well as other times of the year as well and we done a great deal to support various organizations.

However your comments about those particular pictures were considered and yes, have now been removed. I do hope that this rather speedy response and corrective actions help re-store your confidence in the Golden Nugget and The Grand Poker Series. We do pride ourselves on being a very respectful company as well as community active in numerous charitable ways.

Again sir, I thank you for your e-mail and for your insightful view point. I do hope that you will give us a try this summer and either way I do wish you the best of luck in your tournament play.

Regards,

On the upside, maybe we can all rationalize that at least some of our stolen money supported the Boys and Girls club!

This series is great for me as I'm looking to take a week off work to come out to Vegas for the first time. I'm trying to plan it during a good week for PLO8, PLO, or regular NLHE. As someone with a limited BR (should be about $3k when saved up) I don't want to blow half of it in the WSOP $1,500 PLO8 event. I would love to play a $240 event and if I cash for a decent amount go ahead and try out the WSOP event (with both a larger BR and some confidence in my game after the cash). The June 16 PLO8 at GN and June 17 WSOP PLO8 go well together, but the PLO on June 19 (noon for GN, $3k WSOP at 5) unfortunately don't work out well, unless you bust early at GN. Waiting to see the Binions schedule, but June 16-23 looks like the best week IMO.

In response to dabouche , i think your missing the point
Thevwhole point ofvthe lower buy ins is to apeall to the casual players and to guys with smaller bank rolls.
Why would i try and get thru a big field of tough players at the venetian when to use your own words the nugget game has a smaller field of much softer players ?
Same as the daily 200 game at the rio which was getting up to 1500 players
The variaance in that game is ridiculous.

It would be nice if they swapped the HORSE and PLO on June 18/19 so players can play PLO at GN on the 18th and the WSOP event on the 19th... *cough*

Any help from last year's players would be appreciated.
I played one of their HORSE tournaments as a warm up 2 days before the WSOP $1500 HORSE, and the dealers seemed reasonable - some were better/faster than others, but to me that's expected in most mixed games, cash or tourney. GN did seem to make an effort to keep the most experienced mixed game dealers in the box as the tournament went on - the slower ones seemed to fade out as the number of tables shrank.

There was only one dealer at GN that stuck out as not knowing the games she was dealing very well, but she was by far the best looking woman I've ever seen dealing at a poker table, so I guess I can cut her some slack. And even then, she didn't make mistakes, it just took her forever to get things right.

From my experience there's no reason to stay away because of bad dealers - I plan to be back this year for the mixed events in between the WSOP $1500 and $5k HORSE.

Structures for these?
Also, are they only 1 day?

If we reserve a room at GN for a week and use the code GRAND13 for the discounted room (huge discount down to $45/$69 rooms, does that mean we have to play an event each day? How does that work? (I've never been to Vegas or stayed at a casino hotel for a poker tournament.) Thanks!

Thank you. I will hit it up when I'm there. Hope it doesn't last more than 8 hours (flight). Probably going to do the "low-roller" Orleans Sunday night $100 HORSE as well.

Structures are usually very good for the 3/4 first hours, then it depends (usually really too fast in No Limit Hold'em events).
The Golden Nugget problem is not having a day 2. You often play until 2, 3 or 4 am. The best improvement they could do is stopping every night when you get to the final table.

But their schedule is great, the location is nice and the structures are still OK for the price.

Structures are decent, but it kind of becomes a crap shoot at the end. You will get some of the second tier pros from Las Vegas in some of these events, but other than that, the fields are very soft. First place prizes of $7,500-$10,000 just do not do it when you can win $50K+ at the Venetian or WSOP deepstack. It's location is the biggest downfall that I do not believe it will ever overcome, but if your new to poker tournaments this may be a good place to start, as the rooms/pool are nice and very cheap.

Binions is not worth the time. The staff is above average, but the structures and payouts are just not good enough. I am interested to see what the Wynn has to offer, but they do not have a good dedicated place to hold their events other than the middle of the casino.
Couldn't have said it better myself!!!

As for the main event $1090 NLH - there is no justifiable reason to go from 500-1000 to 800-1600 to 1000-2000 to 1500-3000 unless they want another crapshoot type ending. I don't know if people realize this but skipping 600-1200 and 1200-2400 reduces the "skill" tremendously. Hope they do not skip those levels this year.

Did you guys see the schedule for the daily $65 NLH tourneys? These things run all freaking day! 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 10pm, 1am & 4am. Wow. I know the buy in is low but you pretty much have guaranteed tourney action whenever you bust or get through with something bigger. Depending on the turnout a decent tourney player could probably feast on these. If nothing else, they probably could provide your buy-ins for bigger tourneys. I will be checking these out for sure.

Would be happy to have those levels too, but I played the event last year and had plenty of chips when my 1010 lost to 88 all in for 88 preflop on day two, and I railed most of the final table and it was not a crap shoot. Final table started before the dinner break I believe and play went from when the break got over around 7PM I think until well after 2AM. The heads up battle lasted quite awhile with very few all ins.

What's the juice on these? If they're something like $50 + $15 you can't beat the rake.

Prolly should quit poker if you can't beat the rake in those.

Does anyone have an estimate for the amount of entrants a weekday $125 NL tourney in this series would get?

High juice and a fast structure? Phil Ivey probably couldn't beat the rake in those.

But maybe you should quit your job and go play these for a living to test that theory. Be sure to come back with the results.

99% sure that is open to the public. It's just a sponsorship name on your standard tournament.

Looks like last year's $125's (NLHE) got between 125-225 players. The $225's (NLHE) between 60-130 players. Lot's of chopping at the final tables, too.
