Re: Going to Vegas with about $2500

Have you ever played a WSOP event before?

If not, I suggest you do it - just for the experience.

You have enough to play a $1500 WSOP, two $400 VDSE tourneys, and a Daily Deep Stack at the Rio.

If your schedule works, I'd suggest day 1 play the Daily Deep Stack (get some live experience, get used to the Rio. Then play the $1500. If you bust that, play the Venetian tourneys.

Yes, the WSOP $1500's mean you might lose quickly as you start *relatively* short, but you make it to dinner and you're in a much better spot than if you make it to dinner in a Venetian tourney.

& there's no better feeling / experience than playing a WSOP event, assuming you're going for fun...

Re: Going to Vegas with about $2500

Take 100, bet on hard 6 in craps, when it hits, say parlay.... Hits again and you have your main event buy in.. 10k.

Or bet on red, parlay... You gotz 10k for main event!

Or....

Take a shot at 1k 1.5k event if that is your goal..I took a shot at ME 2 years ago with most of my poker profits from the year and ended up making day 5. Good times.... What does 1k really buy anyways... It's good entertainment if you lose and good profits if you win.

So I'm going to hit a couple of satty's early Saturday morning. If I don't win a seat by noon, I'll head over to the V and play their deepstack.
If you can, you'd probably be better off the Friday night before.

Re: Going to Vegas with about $2500

I agree with OT, if you are not worried about the money then play a WSOP event for the experience, you will regret it if you don't.

The things is with MTTs variance is such that you may not cash in anything you play, so if as stated the money is not vital to you then go for the experience, if you make some money then it is a bonus.

The atmosphere around the Rio is different to a normal tourney and is worth soaking up IMO.

I am heading there Sunday for a week and will play the $1,500 next week as well as some VDS and daily deep stacks.

Have fun, take a shot and hope you get some run good.

Re: Going to Vegas with about $2500

If you choose to play STTs do it for the fun of it.

With 15 minute levels, piss poor dealers, at best 6 - 7 hands per level and 1,000 starting stacks there's way too mich variance in them to serve as a reliable way of getting into a bracelet event.

I didn't see any $125s run the first week, so that would leave you playing $175s which you're definitively not rolled for.

IMHO Ontario Tory's suggestion is superior in terms of getting the most & the most exciting WSOP experience for your buck.

Could be.

I frequent the (s)Limelight, Casino Royale, Lucky Derby, occasionally Thunder Valley and one or two home games a week.

Re: Going to Vegas with about $2500

Unfortunately, unless something with my work schedule changes, it will be tough to make it there much before late Friday night. If I do get there early enough I can hopefully fit a couple of $175 satty's in. It would be nice to go to bed not having to worry about getting up and trying to win a seat in the morning.

I am still debating about buying directly into the $1500. I would really like the experience of playing in a WSOP event but $1500 is a big investment for me.

Just because I will still be able to pay the rent whether I win or lose doesn't mean I wouldn't like to come home with a fat wad of $100's. Ideally I would like to maximize my chances of a decent payout. This is the con argument of the $1500 event.

There are no $400 VDS events that weekend, only the two $600 tourneys on Sat/Sun. So both of those + $1500 = $2700 and I haven't paid for gas, food, or lodging yet so this isn't doable.

The field sizes at the Wynn have been pretty small which is good and bad - higher chance of cashing but less money when you do.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback so far.

Re: Going to Vegas with about $2500

about 4 years ago, i went in a very similar situation.

i ended up dropping about 2k and not getting to play a wsop event. then, i did the same thing the year after that. i went home incredibly disappointed both times.

i highly advise against playing the stts with the expectation that you'll win your way in as it would be incredibly easy to drop 1k and not win one. if you want to play one or two hoping to get lucky with the expectation you'll buy in anyway should you not succeed, i'm all for it.

i would highly suggest buying into the $1500 or $1000 wsop event as there really is nothing like it and you will leave disappointed if you don't. of course, a lot of people bust early, but they have great structures. if you can avoid getting unlucky, it's easy to imagine you will play for 4-5 hours with relative ease.

basically, what OT and McMelchior said.

and also, there may not be a better value live tournament in the world than the 1000 and 1500 nlhe events at wsop. the structure is solid and there are soooo many mediocre/bad players. you can always tell yourself it was the most +ev decision even if it does mean dropping >50% of your bankroll on one tournament.

KoKo....I play at Royale a lot, so we probably know each other. I'm #12 on their TOC list right now, although I busted out today with two pair to a flopped straight.

That's not the reason you want to play on Friday. It's because a lot of tourney bustouts, tilted cash game players, ordinary tourists, drunks, etc will be playing. There will be a much more serious crowd Saturday at 9 am.

Rage, you only get T3000 in the $1k. It isn't as easy as you make it sound to last 4 to 5 hours, structure notwithstanding.

Re: Going to Vegas with about $2500

i would strongly recommend playing venetian 300/600s. they both have good starting stacks, and decent structures. i have played them this and last yr and enjoy them more than wsop events. you get better starting stacks, dealers, autoshufflers, grand lux, 10$ food voucher , fiji water, its just a better environment imo
