If the ME is the only event you're playing, I'd say warming up with a DSE event first is an excellent idea.

Anyway, the moral to the story is don't be afraid to call bets early if you don't know table that well.
actually the moral of this story is make your decision and live with it. don't be results oriented, because this will just waste mental energy.

you can't flat every EP 3b just because you recognize some aggro live pro.

Thanks. Otherwise my preparation is consisting of reviewing some old tournament histories and brushing up with some strat books.

I haven't been playing as much since BF but I have been playing, so I don't think rust will be a major issue.

Be well rested so you can play every hand - don't play every hand - but be able to play every hand.

Keep playing the hands you fold.
Pick one person still in the hand and try to play the hand from their perspective. Watch every hand shown down - it will play off hours later. This is a very long tournament and you can set up plays that can pay off much later in the day (as long as your table doesn't breaK)

Each day I found myself bleeding off chips after the dinner break. Do something to get a break, but don't get out of "poker mode"

Have a daily routine that allows you exercise, sleep, and food. Try to keep your blood sugar levels relatively constant - have a good late breakfast - eat little bits all day and avoid a heavy dinner meal.

On the off days go "do" something non-poker related.

Remember everyone has something motivating their decision. Figure out who you are playing against and then think about what is motivating them.

Think about what your table mates think about you and recognize the image they have of your will greatly affect how they play against you. But recognize that image will change as the day progresses. Your image of yourself and their image of you may not be the same. Be aware.

You will not have to mix up your game early on, but later if you play with the same people (if they are good) you may have to change things up.

Don't be intimidated by TV pros or known online pros. Just figure out what they are trying to get you to do and then disappoint them. Early on, if you are not seated close to them just avoid them in marginal spots. There are easier chips to be had. Later in the tourney you may not be able to avoid them, but by that point you will be more comfortable.

I had a great rookie experience and wish you the best. The thread I made about it is long but it may be helpful.
This is about as sound advice as it gets.Well said 1-secret-1.

This. You're always in fine shape as long as you've got 30+ BBs so don't trip on trying to catch up to everyone quickly.

Also bring extra clothes like a thermal to wear under your shirt. These Rio dudes never figured out how to create a normal temperature.

And bring nourishment like energy bars. Run out of fuel you crash and burn with the long days.

Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

Some other thoughts.

If you can, run to the washroom at the beginning of each break, or even better walk through the RIO and use the washroom in the casino, not near the actual poker areas.

During the dinner break if you plan on cabbing to your hotel, have someone ready in line for the cabs because they get crazy. It's also not ridiculous to ask someone else in line ahead of you if they are going to the same hotel as you and would mind some company (if you bud a long line obviously pay for the cab).

You need to navigate a mindfield, so keep your cool. Some people call your 3-bets with any two cards because **** you, that's why.

Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

Still lots of great advice popping up.

I've got granola and trail mix for munching and will have layers for clothing since apparently the Rio has some pretty weird temperature set up. IDK why so many casinos decide that "frigid" is the correct temperature but I always carry a sweatshirt when I play, too many previous experiences sitting there shivering in short sleeves.

I'm also staying at the Rio, so dealing with taxis if they are horrid shouldn't be a major issue. I have friends staying at the Palms with a kitchen, so if we want to get out of the Rio we can make our own stuff.

Last gasp beg for great advice with the ME less than two weeks away. Other than "run good", of course.

It has been mentioned, but it's still good info.

I'm not really in the habit of punching walls, but not throwing a raging tantrum always seems like good advice.
