Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

I won a seat through a home game. I tried wiring the Rio the 10k, but it was rejected due to it coming from a 3rd party (organizer of said home game). It took Maria currey, who works at the Rio and was in charge of this transaction about 9 days to return the money to the original account. According to them, you have up until 2 weeks before it starts to send them the money, which I am assuming is June 25th for day 1c.
I am currently having problems with my bank, so it seems I might not make this cutoff. Are they strict about the 2 week thing, or will they accept a wire after their stated 2 week cutoff for the main event?
If that is no longer an option for me, I am landing in vegas on the 8th, the day before day 1c. Are you allowed to register for day 1c either the day before or the day of , or does registration close after day 1a begins. If I can register for the event when I land in vegas, is there a chance day 1C would be sold out ???? I am slightly worried because if I dont manage to regester and play in this event, im basically out the 10k buyin.

You can register at any time "at the window," but there may be a line. I would suggest signing up as soon as you hit town. Supposedly, they have plenty of seating for the ME this year, so it won't sell out.

You will have no problem (other than waiting in line) registering for 1C on the 9th. The chances they sell out are probably <1%.

Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

Good to know, but I'll just buy in for either Day 1B or C Saturday night after I'm done playing the VDS. I'm staying at the Rio so finding a time when the line isn't long shouldn't be a problem.

You could always buy in Day 1A and then play the $600 on Sunday as well (always assume you'll make day 2 of the VDS), that's what I'm doing.

Of course, one could veg by the pool until 2A as well.

Of course, the UTG raiser and Elliot both had A-K and I should have had all of their chips. I still have nightmares about this hand.

Anyway, the moral to the story is don't be afraid to call bets early if you don't know table that well. Your stack will be plenty deep and losing 750 to see a flop isn't the end of the world. Funny thing is, if we were in level 2 or 3 and I was in the same situation, I would have called every time because the UTG raiser and Elliot were the two most active players at the table with a wide open range of hands being played, but sadly I didn't know this less than an hour into the tournament.
Isn't it better to be calling with pocket pairs and suited connectors against a tight range than a wide range? Aren't you less likely to get paid off from a wide range as opposed to a tight range? Don't quite get your logic in the bolded, but hey, you've played the M.E. and I haven't....so.....

Meh, maybe it's superstitious, but I'd rather "warm up" the with VDS.

I was trying to play small pots on Day 1 as much as possible, because I wanted to make it to at least Day 2. I was very inexperienced at the time. In hindsight, I wish I had played more hands than I did though, but hindsight's 20/20!

Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

I mean, i would never have tossed 33 in that spot that deep, but I had a similar experience with much shallower stacks (live daily tourney in AC) when the action went bet/call/raise/reraise/fold (me)/call preflop. I flatted the original raiser with 55, but when the BB raised and the OR 4 bet, our stacks were too shallow for me to set mine when I was up against what I assumed were two big pairs.

Flop was 554. BB had KK (ldo). OR/4 better had pocket eights! a;kldaf;lkjad;lkjadf;lkj;asdf;lj adsfjk;fa fda

But in any event, I don't tend to get too hung up on what WOULD have happened if I had called in X spot when the action clearly indicates folding a marginal hand. My plan at the ME is to play speculative hands while deep stacked in position, but I'll evaluate everything based on my table and situation.

Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

If I could have killed the action with my call, I would have. But there was a raise-reraise with four more people to act after me plus the original raiser. Sure enough, when it was folded to him he reraised again to around $2200 (If I remember right), and even with deep stacks, investing $2200 on a hand that had the possibility of being crushed pre-flop, I wasn't interested in getting involved at that time. If the action was raise/call, then I may have flat called and prayed I wouldn't get squeezed by one of the blinds or the button. Oh well...water under the river at this point.

Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

You'll have a blast playing in the ME and I wish you nothing but the best of luck (or no bad luck at least ). I'm heading to Vegas on Thursday and will be playing at Caesar's on Friday and the Rio Deep Stack on Monday. My confidence is riding high since my last three tournaments I've played I've cashed in all three, winning two outright and coming in 3rd in the other.
