First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

Playing my first WSOP ME this summer. I've played one WSOP event previously (lol $1Kdonkaments) and have played a decent amount live and online (good volume for an amateur), but obviously this is the big one.

I'll have between $3-5K of my own action and am more excited than anything else, but any advice/insight/suggestions would be welcome.

I'm not looking for stuff like where to stay, just tips you would give to a first time ME player. I plan on just playing my game and staying patient.

What do you wish you had known before playing this event for the first time?

The patience thing really is huge. The structure is so good. 20 big blinds in the Sunday Million and 20 big blinds in the WSOP ME are quite different. Just looked at how many big blinds they'll both be at in 1 hour, assuming no chip gains or losses in the hour.

My first WSOP was 2006. I wish I'd known Jamie Gold was a big bluffer

As hinted at in the above post, though, the tourney just allows for so much play. You can't win the tournament on day 1, but you can definitely lose it. I finished day 1 last year with less chips than I'd started with, and still went pretty deep (/brag?)

i think the most popular place to stay is the rio however if you plan on being in vegas for the duration of the ME staying there gets old fast. i stayed there my first year and decided not to stay in the casino last year i stayed at vdara I THINK IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE.

I guess I can understand that, but ultimately I'm a cheap bastard.

If patience is an asset in this tourney I'm in better shape than some, as that's one of the best parts of my game.

Re: First WSOP ME - what did you wish you knew?

if possible turn-off your cell phone and try not to check it until breaks or dinner.

If you have friends meeting or even better a car, try to get out of Rio for dinner. I like a really light dinner in Chinatown.

As pointed out by several folks, you can't win ME on Day 1, but you can lose it for sure.

I recommend getting exercise morning of or day before.

Have fun!

LOL, thanks.

I feel like I might be at a slight disadvantage in not knowing as many pros/regs as someone else would, but I'm decent at reading people and patient so I'll just have to adapt.

Don't pay attention to average stack. Instead pay attention to the number of bbs you have.

2006 was my first ME as well. Never ran into Jamie Gold but I wish I knew KK wasn't gonna hold against QQ AIPF.

Solid, thanks.

Is there some place in the Rio where you can get wi-fi for free?
