As per a B&M post Matt Savage will be running a tourney series at the Hard Rock, he says he will post the proposed schedule.

I was called last month by Hard Rock Poker Room Manager Troy Evans to put together a tournament series during the WSOP but I decided that competing with 7 other tournament series including the WSOP is a bad idea.

I have done about 100 one offs in Las Vegas since the 2004 WSOP but I am very happy to be running another series where I live.

I put together dates (August 13-22nd) one month after the WSOP the locals will be ready to play again and the proposed schedule has a something for everyone. My goal is to have a professionally run series with great room rates, player friendly deep structures, and extras that I think players will enjoy.

I really like that schedule, but I'm strongly against playing all the NL events 6-handed from 36 players. Not that I'm against short-handed play, which I enjoy, I just think that a tournament should be as homogeneous as possible. Having a sudden and dramatic change 2/3rds of the way through the tournament makes no sense to me.

Perhaps have 1 NL event play that way? Or compromise and play them 8-handed, a la the Stars tournaments (NAPT, PCA etc).

In, good move for HR, bringing Matt in to run a series

The reason I do I wanted to do it is that it makes the structure even deeper late and at the final table like Bay 101, Aruba, and Aussie Millions (other tournaments I have run). I also think it does change the dynamic of the game as well.

Interested to see what more of you think and I can still make changes. Troy and the Hard Rock have been real supportive so far and left it up to me.

6 handed is boss, I might play these seeing as how we rented our house through august. maybe I wont hate live poker by this time

Are the guarantees "true" guarantees this time? I recall a fair amount of flack when Hard Rock canceled one of its $20k "guarantee" tourneys because the player min wasn't reached.

Nice Matt, long live O8, but is the Hard Rock still a haze of cigarette smoke?

The cigarette smoke is really only an issue in the first couple of tables due to the bar right next door.

Tournaments are NEVER held on those tables. Those tables are used for cash games only.

I assume that this tournament will be held in the back of the room, where it is completely smoke free.

I look forward to playing at least one event.

CK's concern is a VERY valid one.

Hard Rock is well known for cancelling guarantee tournaments when there are not enough players to "qualify" for the guarantee.

I can only assume that with Matt at the helm that this issue will be moot, but it is definately worth asking about.

I will do what I can to either eliminate the smoke or reduce the exposure of the tournament players have to face. Big fan of non smoking tournaments.
