DeepStacks Poker Tour 2014 Calgary & Edmonton FAQS DeepStacks Poker Tour 2014 Calgary & Edmonton FAQS

Those already playing DeepStacks Poker Tour events have already brought up a few good questions about the Calgary $1,100 (Series runs September 20th-28th with 100k GTD Main) and Edmonton $1350 (Series runs October 4th-12th with 150k GTD Main). First few FAQs have been about hotels and online poker.

Played enough at both Grey Eagle Casino and Casino Yellowhead to comfortably say both are electronic device friendly when NOT in a hand. Obviously no tolerance for delay of game and asked poker manager in Edmonton question directly and was told if the mobile device is preferably kept in plain view and played only between hands it's not an issue. Will ask Grey Eagle the same as some players would like to multi-task if they are coming up/over here in Alberta, especially since there is a good chance WCOOPs will be running over one of them.

I've read the new convention space and hotel at Grey Eagle is a possible "Spring opening" however, I am told that no matter what it will be open by the time DSPT event hits. Will post any poker rates that are announced and of course wifi info. Doubt that there would be any fee, but just in case...

Edmonton, used to staying with other players at Ramada, only about 15 minute drive and has suites or decent rooms, sports pub, few places to eat on location. Going to get rates and other options but wanted to start thread with some basic info and hopefully others will post what they know or any relevant experiences.

Side event schedules also still to come.

Both stops are new to Canada but Edmonton will be held over the pre-existing almost two decade old "Canadian Poker Championships".

Asked a bunch of Edmonton & Calgary players about this over the DFIC Winter Super Stack series that is wrapping up and the feedback was all very positive. For lack of better words most people are thinking this could be the new CPT...everybody liked playing for dedicated POY points and tracked winnings in a structured tour, just need consistency. With DSPT recently announcing an agreement with GPI (and Hendon by affiliation) all the casino has to do is submit or post where anyone can grab it to do so, and the rest is looked after.

Having the Fantasy Poker Manger app also tied in and being to pick local players as long as they are in the GPI will also be a lot of fun and I'm sure good for a few props. Usually don't get this all in the lower buyins.

Quick bump to add that it was just announced (March 12th) that there is a 2014 Player Of the Year points race and these 2 Alberta events will count as they are Global Poker Index eligible at 1k plus. Winner of DSPT/GPI will receive 2015 sponsorship, accommodations/travel, swag, a trophy and custom designed table.

Venues will also be encouraged with DSPT to offer a Player of Series incentive on top of any guaranteed prize-pools, will post any updates if Calgary or Edmonton release any info on this.

With WPT & DSPT forming the new mid major brand WPTDeepStacks a lot of players have been asking if the two Alberta events are now under the new brand - the answer is no and Chris Torina explains here: http://ca.pokernews.com/news/2014/05...anada-3946.htm

Hopefully some cool new events. It would be nice to see a high roller with a faster structure this time. The slower structure really doesn't appeal to the crowd that the high roller is going after. Also a PLO tourney if properly organized could work.

Thanks Jon, excited to be a part of this event and my first official foray into the Canadian market. Looking forward to seeing many of the players that have been coming down to the US for years.

Are you going to be wearing a cowboy hat to fit in? What are your "clearing up line brawls" qualifications?

I heard about that in Calgary, someone told me it's just like Texas which will freak me out a bit. I'll be at the Flames game vs the HATED Canucks that week also.

Can we get a confirmation of the structure sheet for Calgary event. Recent post on DSP website has 30K starting stack and different starting blind levels.

See below link for what I am referring to, compared to what was already posted in this thread.

Will see if Torina can cross check this for you. The Grey Eagle DSPT stop hotel deals are out now, very nice rooms for $109 using promo code "deep" or entry into the $550 ($75k gtd) & $1100 ($200k gtd) + 5 nights with breakfast & taxes in for $2200 with promo code "DEEP5". Hotel attached to casino, would be a $149-$189 room most other times/places in Alberta for sure.

West Jet also offering 10% off flights with code "CC6628" for flights September 20-28th over series.

All structures & schedules for both Calgary & Edmonton should be listed on the DeepStacks Poker Tour website now, along with a photo of room.

Good Luck to those coming out, getting close now

Great turnout for $1350 in Edmonton, was 313 runners for better than $401,000 prize-pool. $88,700 up top went to Ryan Smith of Saskatchewan
