I missed nothing. While you did point out your "noob" status, you also claimed it was a "bullsh*t ruling" even though it is following normal protocol.
The reason you can't just figure out the burn card is because of subjectivity and potential bias by the floor, dealer, and participating players. You were clearly arguing for a potential burn card and board because it benefited you. It may have been a different story if you didn't want those 3 specific cards and may have a shot at a slightly different board once the 4 cards are scrambled. There is also no guarantee that the order of the cards on the board match the order that they came out of the deck [Any dealer that has tried to spread a board with a well-worn deck that has become bridged can testify to that].
The rules need uniformity and that is why pretty much every major tournament series does the protocol of mixing the 4 cards up and randomly picking a card which will be the burn. It sucks when it happens and in my years of dealing, I've never put down a 4 card flop but the rules are meant to be consistent.
