This. It's one thing to have spotty/mediocre reception, but the last two times I've been in the poker room, I have had 0 AT&T reception. Sucks having to go downstairs and walk 100 yards every hour or so to make sure I don't have texts or voicemails. With a 4yo and a 1yo, hard to just be out of pocket for hours at a time.

Kind of a derail, but when my 2 kids were that young my wife was completely capable of caring for them while I was away at work/golf/poker/whatever and she didn't' feel a need to pepper me with texts and phonecalls when I was busy.
I don't see why you need immediate access just because of small children back at home? And if it's a true emergency she can call the desk and have them page you, or better yet 911 since you are probably over an hour away anyways.

People seem to forget before cell phones and even earlier beepers kids were raised and life was carried on without any problems.

Re: Choctaw, Durant OK Weekly Tournaments
i understand both of your points. Twice I was playing at Winstar when their phone reception was crap, and tornadoes were near our house. Our power was out and she was trying to get weather updates. It's not like she is texting me that one of them took a dump. Another time, my 3 year old was crying because she 'really missed daddy'. I don't HAVE to take that call, but I would prefer to, you know? But no, when I'm generally at work/poker/golf, I don't get peppered either.
To bigtex's point, I understand and agree with that. The problem now is that you get used to that, and it becomes hard to say "hey suck it up because I am playing poker, which is more important". My wife is very supportive of my poker. I live in Austin, and in the last 18 months have gone to New Orleans, Winstar, Choctaw, Tunica, Vegas twice just for poker trips. It's still nice to be reachable, since we have this technology. Additionally, it's not just the wife. I have supervisory responsibilities at work, my mother is chronically sick, if I am with people there, it's nice to be able to arrange meals, etc via text, and so on and so forth.
It's not gonna stop me from going to Choctaw to play these tournies. But it will affect where I stay and where I play cash games if I am going up for a Choctaw/Winstar Mega weekend, and I doubt I'm the only one.

You might consider a prepaid tracfone if they don't want to call and have you paged for emergencies.

Re: Choctaw, Durant OK Weekly Tournaments
not going to all that hassle/expense with tracfone. last time I gave her the hotel # and told her to do that in an emergency. my daughter missing me and needing to hear my voice probably doesn't make it to that. should I send it to all work employees, my brother, my dad, etc?
The world is not going to stop if I can't be reached. But it is a hell of a lot more convenient for me, my family, my colleagues, etc, if I can at least send/receive text messages/emails. And when there is another casino 50 miles away (same driving distance from my house) that has the capability for me to be reached, it becomes an easy choice.

Re: Choctaw, Durant OK Weekly Tournaments
I agree with Black Aces, in this day and age it shouldn't be that hard to fix this problem. One of the reasons I can get away to play poker as much as I do is that I can receive texts and answer emails remotely. If Choctaw had one of those "repeaters" (I think that's what they are called), I'd be great.

Guess I've been married too long the only time my wife calls is to say send money home or like while in Biloxi she said hurry home you just bought me a new truck with your winnings and we pick it up tomorrow.

Big Tex, at least she can buy things with your winnings...it could be that other call...don't come home because you can't cash!

People ask me why I prefer driving to flying, flying is too expensive since my wife drops me off at the airport and picks me up. But when picking me up she won't lower the wheelchair ramp until I put a number of $100 bills thru the slightly opened window.

800/1600/200
1000/2000/300
2000/4000/500

I'll have to speak with Marvin. Breaks down significantly after 1/2 300 I know it is a $175 and the 15k in chips offers a lot of play early, but not having 12/24 or at least a 15/30 is just flat awful.

Re: Choctaw, Durant OK Weekly Tournaments
ya also the first 100/200 should just be 75/150 so it goes 25/50, 50/100, 7/`50, 100/200/25
