Where should one stay? Does the Casino have a hotel? Any recommendations for a suitable safe hotel nearby?
Looking for the advice of those experienced with traveling and playing there.

Lets make it a practice that for every Hammond tournament series thread, the OP contain a summary of the hotel information. It seems that the majority of the posts in any Hammond thread are hotel questions.
Basically in answer to the FAQ:
Easily accessible from the Interstate (Chicago Skyway / Indiana Toll Road, to be precise). Therefore, area around the casino is basically irrelevant unless your car breaks down (nothing is within walking distance, so don't even ask), in which case you're in an industrial area with well-lit massive gas stations not far away. There are much worse places to be. Packing heat is not recommended unless you have the proper training.
No hotel at the casino. Motels within a few miles. Typical interstate exit hotels and motels at most exits from I-80/94 not too far away. If cost isn't the primary concern, stay in Chicago at a real hotel and enjoy the city.
