Re: Binion's Poker Classic: May 25 - July 8

Is anyone going to be playing the events this weekend at Binion's? Last year I final tabled 3 events with one win, it was the softest fields out of any of the events that I played. I look forward to tomorrow. A little run good and we can start this summer off with a bang this weekend.

Re: Binion's Poker Classic: May 25 - July 8

Play was definitely soft today. I chipped up quite a bit by playing tight and hardly going to showdown. The only times I did have to showdown was when I was all-in or called-all in a few times with premo hands. Didn't go too deep though and went busto when my stack was around 52k at the 800/1600/200 level on a gross hand which I believe was a read mistake on my part due to fatigue.

Eat something and take a **** before the tournament. Lesson learned.

Looking forward to Monday's 6max tournament. It should be fun with the internet poker button mashers, myself included.

Heard there were 100 runners for the $150 on Sunday. I played the 6max tourney yesterday which had 60 runners.

i also played the 6max and it seemed there were only 3 or 4 internet button mashers and the rest were bad live players.

60 players?!?!?! So glad I skipped it. Would rather grind WSOP S&G's.

I'm planning on playing next Monday as a warm up to the WSOP 6-max later that week. Hopefully there'll be more players then.

Any idea what time it finished? Guessing only final table was paid if there were 60 runners?

Now this takes me back; World Series of Poker time, playing High Stakes Hold Em at the Horseshoe for glory and money.
Personally, I can't see why people would want the fields to be larger? Smaller manageable fields return the game to one where the best player will usually prevail instead of the crapshoots at the WSOP and the Venetian where it just matters which guy gets his turn at the cards at the right time.
I'll definitely be playing some of these (and maybe stopping in at Mermaids for their .99 hot dog special!)

Bigger fields equal bigger prize pools - particularly attractive to those of us travelling from a far who will only be in town a couple of weeks. What's the point of travelling all that way to play in a field of 60 where first pays out in the region of 10 - 12 buy-ins?

Binion's hasn't had good field sizes for like the last 3 years. It's a complete waste of time to go there IMO

I disagree... Binion's last year was the better tourney series compared to Golden Nugget, the floor staff was competent and the dealers could deal. Most of the NLH tourneys got 150+ runners. Anyone that played at Binion's & Golden Nugget last year could tell you that Binion's is the better ran tourney (not the better tourney structure though).

Binions tourney director did quit to go run the room at Palms so it will be interesting to see how well they do this year.

Has anyone played the tourneys this week? How was it ran?

I played the Sat $150 and honestly it was pretty well run. Whoever the guy was that seemed to be running it was actually all over it, consistently coming over tableside whenever he saw big pots late in the tourney to assist the dealers with any counts, side pots etc if needed. The only drawback I saw (other than the obv ones that come with Binions, like increased chance of getting jacked, no red bull, etc) was the reg booth gets a little backed up right before the start time. There were 146 runners on Sat too-
.
