enjoyed the experience and the profits. soft fields, managed well, and even a friendly player base. only complaints are

1) the dealers seemed a little below average but for the most part it wasn't an issue. heard one mention they make avg below min wage so that's an issue for the better regs who cash to tip better. i would expect the timing that creates the soft fields to thin out the quality anyway.

2) additional space is needed or the buy-in/guarantee needs to increase. i reg'd about 9:45 and was the cut-off for starting seating in the poker room for 1c and heard horror stories about alternates being seated as late as 4pm. ouch!

if work didn't conflict with the ft of the main on monday i'd make the 5+ hour drive again! when does day 2 typically finish?

thanks johnny/beau!

As always, it's an "It depends". Based on a field size of 235-250 players ( our estimate) we should end day 2 between 10:30pm and Midnight.

Good deal. Glad you had a good time. Next series is the big one... January 2-15. Should have a half million guaranteed opening and closing event. And we get to add a lot more space....

We had 37 tables in addition to our regular poker room for this one.... In January it will be 77. Last January we had 62....

JohnnyGroomsTD - Thank you to you and to Paul for running a great tournament again. I'm headed home for about a week before the IP WSOP stop on Sept 4th. The Beau feels like a second home to me (I'm the Tunica chick who comes down to play in Biloxi several times a year). I wanted to give some feedback to both you and to some of the other posters on this thread.

I know that the tournament management group that comes in never knows for sure what the player turn-out is going to be, but this tournament felt understaffed, as demonstrated by the huge number of alternates for nearly every event on the weekend, including the second chance 7 pm nightly tournaments. I can only speak for myself, but I'd be willing to pay $10 more in fees per event (bringing it in line with the WSOP Circuit events fee of $65 on $300 events) if it would increase the number of dealers and more tables available for seating the over-run of tournament entries and cash games in the later hours. I assume you don't want to be overstaffed in the middle of the week when the turn-out is lower, but perhaps some dealers would be willing to come for only half of the tournament if they were able to make more per down, and thus you could get more dealers on the weekend and fewer during the week.

As for the other posters on this thread who question the scheduling -- if the Million Dollar Heater were shifted two weeks later in January, it would cannibalize the player base for the Tunica WSOP-Circuit that starts January 22nd or 23rd. Shifting it two weeks earlier would overlap with Christmas and New Year's, which turn off all but the most degenerate of poker players.

Even though I'd rather it wasn't so soon after Christmas (holiday spending wipes out a lot of casual player's playable money), the Million Dollar Heater and the Southern Poker Challenge are perfectly placed two to three weeks in front of the WSOP-Circuit stops in Mississippi (IP Biloxi in September, Horseshoe Tunica in late January/early February). It makes it easier for players whose bankrolls and locations fit these tournaments to stay in the area for about a month, play in a friendly environment, eat amazing food, and then move on to another stop (please, do yourself a favor and try the local cuisine: the Tamale Trail, fried green tomatoes, and barbecue in the Delta, and seafood, poboys, and gumbo on the Coast).

I wish the tourneys were more spread out, but honestly, I'm fine with the set-up. I just have a very very busy January/February and August/September.

Thanks again: Johnny, Paul, TI, and all of the other managers and dealers whose faces I recognize but whose names I can't remember.

TL;DR: You should come to Mississippi.

Ugh, I meant the Golf Coast Poker Championship, not the Southern Poker Challenge. Although they do seem to be run by the same group.

Johnny,

Will the non-holdem side events (O8, Stud8, PLO8) be one day or two day events? I have a limited window where I might be able to play for a few days and knowing this would help me determine if I can make it down or not--I hope to, as I miss the events your crew used to run in Tunica.

Normally if its <50 entrants it's one day, two day otherwise

Johnny, please start a new thread for January; otherwise there will be some confusion.

The rules of the forum prevent me from starting my own thread, as my company does not advertise on 2+2. I can only respond to questions about the event... Perhaps someone else could start it... Lol
