Johnny, this isn't intended a slight towards you but more of a general question...why do so many of the TD's insist on running events like HORSE or PLO or Stud mid-week? I am sure I am not the only one who would be far more inclined to travel if they were at least on a Friday night, although early weekend would be even better.

It almost comes across at too many Series as an attempt to say 'hey, we tried to offer something other than NLHE but we just don't get the entries.'

This one falls squarely in the same category...would have been willing to fly in but cannot give up the middle of my week to do it.

Johnny, while you're at it can you cure cancer?

It's been tried before! Poker is a tough business. Most players, like you cannot give up their mid-week lives to play in a poker tournament. TD's generally cannot give up the valuable table space on the weekends to run an event that they know will have a limited number of entries. I'm not aware of any event in the US that holds events like HORSE or PLO or Stud mid-week.

Unfortunately, table space on weekends is the issue.... We have large scale guaranteed events on the opening weekend of an event. It is common for our property to seat alternates 3 hours after the beginning of the event. We have actually removed our 4PM events on the opening Saturday to make room for this event.
The other common complaint we get is that scheduling events like a HORSE event on a weekend concurrent with a large guaranteed event is "... we want to play in the guaranteed event and the HORSE too... Why did you schedule them on top of one another.."
Our efforts to schedule non-NL events are generally most successful when we put Stud/8, HORSE, Omaha 8 on back to back days during the week...

Johnny/Team/Other-Knowledgable-Person:

Do we know what the late reg period is for event 1? I'm assuming first 4 levels (and thru break 1; 2:15pm ??), but you know where that gets ya... Just trying to work out what time I have until on Day 1C to reg.

thx!

Late reg. Is through the end of level 3 ( approx. 1:30pm). I would recommend against, as we will have a long line of alternates for the fields

Structure for the main was supposed to be posted last week but wasn't, due to unforeseen personal issues. I will have this posted tomorrow. It has been submitted to MGC. Rest assured it is a good structure, almost certainly better than anything else you will find for a $1,600 buy in

Event one will end Sunday. We changed the restart time for the opening event to 11AM in January. The Saturday Noon flight was ending around 10:30-11PM, and 12 hours is enough of a gap between bagging and restart.

This allows us to end the event around midnight-2AM Sunday night/Monday morning.

Johnny, Just curious, what's the rationale for sticking with the 2009 TDA rules?

Looking forward to a good series.

Several rules in the newest set are "objectionable". Without going into specifics, I feel we abandon the guest service aspect of the business by embracing some of the newer rules. This does not serve our interests very well to grow the game...

I respect the choices of those who developed the rules and their intended outcomes, but don't feel they are a good fit for the market where I work. I haven't been to a TDA summit since 2009, but hope to attend the next one and have some input...

Got you. Some of those new rules are definitely overkill.

The Beau ought to send you to the next one. They'd get plenty of good publicity if you helped make some player friendly rule changes...
