Hi,
Regarding structure changes.
Apologies for the delay in answering however I wanted to run London UKIPT before I responded to see if there were any further feedback.
In the first seasons we had to play 10/11 levels per day to get through the huge fields, we received a lot of negative feedback about that as well as it also being very tough for event staff. We listened and changed to 8 levels per day finishing the ME by 9 pm but the downside was running the final table on the Monday. Unfortunately having the final table on the Monday is not very exciting for anyone, there is rarely an audience or atmosphere, the final table and the crowning of our winner is all rather unexciting for those players. This is also a regional tour for the working man/woman and a Monday finish means players have to take an extra day off work, that is something that is a problem for many recreational players. Finishing the Main Event so early had its advantages also, it had a positive impact on the side events and the schedule in general and more importantly provided a much more open schedule for our players to enjoy the cities we visit, have meet ups and generally have some fun outside of the poker room. We have found over the last few years this is one of the successes of the UKIPT and one of the reasons why players love the tour (along with our great dealers and floor staff
). These changes allow us to accommodate the big fields, keep the tour a social one and make it attractive for the working recreational player.
The changes are - increased stack to 25,000, added the 100/200 level without the 25 ante, but we will start on 50/100, 40 min day 1 (12 levels), 50 min day 2 (10 levels) and 60 min for the final day, we still finish at a reasonable hour each day and we should be crowning our winners Sunday evening. These changes were discussed internally and we also approached a number of regular players to ask their opinion. We know that everyone won’t agree but we do feel this is in the best interest of the tour and our players and the right way forward. Having said that, nothing is set In stone and this is all going to be reviewed after the first few stops.
The feedback from players at the recent London event regarding the structure change has been quite positive, however based on the feedback from this thread we are carrying out additional research/player surveys.
Thanks
Toby
