2017 WPT Fallsview Poker Classic: February 17-24 2017 WPT Fallsview Poker Classic: February 17-24

The information for the fourth consecutive WPT Fallsview Poker Classic is available the earliest ever @ https://www.fallsviewcasinoresort.com/gaming/listings. It is the same as 2016 so you can look at my thread last year for details, e.g.,

- 8.8% - 12.7% rake for four C$1,100 - C$5K events, including 3% gratuity.
- Entries are non-transferable, so you can no longer buy somebody else's C$5,000 and C$2,500 entries for a lot lower than face value.

Here are a couple of Fallsview-related news items since February 2016:
- It is now on Bravo Poker Live.

- The current contract with Falls Management Company, which operates the two Niagara Falls casinos on behalf of the OLG, expires June 10, 2019 and will not be renewed. OLG has issued a Request for Pre-Qualification, which means that the biggest names in the international gaming industry can apply to run the day-to-day operations of the two gaming sites, including Caesars, Mohegan Sun, Penn National Gaming, or Genting Group.

These might be the best starting days they've ever had for this event.

* The 1100 is now starting on Friday/Saturday. It's never been on a weekend before. I imagine 1B will sell out very quickly, and 1A will probably sell out faster than usual as well.
* The 2500 is now on Monday the 20th, which is a holiday for many US players. I doubt that will cause a significant increase, but we'll see.

Thanks Nash, very cool to post all the info here.
Did you play the 1100$ last year? Only 10k chips to start with but the structure looks pretty good.

Yes, I played the $1,100. Its Patience Factor is lower than most $1K+ buy-ins I've played. The problem is that the WPT high-ante structure is used, but instead of the usual 25K-30K in starting chips, there is only 10K chips.

To compare, the $1,100 side event at WPT Montreal has 2.5x more chips at 25,000. Playground Poker Club's events at similar buy-ins usually have better structures than Fallsview.

Thanks for all the info Nash
Yeah I'm still bitter over the structure for the $1.1k.
Needs serious improvement imo

I've never played the series at Fallsview before.

I head that they used to have limited seating? And that people would be unable to play some events? And/or there was some confusing market for second hand seats?

Is that kind of stuff still going on? Is it necessary to register early for these things?

tyty

Yes, this was and still is true.

No more secondary market for seats, they are now fully non-transferable.

The 275 and 550 satellites will definitely sell out in advance. 1B for the 1k will sell out as well, I imagine 1A will sell out but it might be closer to the actual day where it does so. Any of those tournaments will have to be purchased in advance, I would not advise chancing it and showing up the day of. The 2500 and 5k will not sell out (although the 2500 has been somewhat close getting ~500 people in the past).

Obviously, the important note is that if you register for something in advance, and are still in another tournament, you will *NOT* get a refund for the tournament you are in. Schedule well

That wasn't the case last year (even though it was communicated as such). Players who were still in the $1K that had the $275 satty tickets did receive a refund back onto their players card - which allowed for more last-minute tickets to open up.

Innnnnteresting, I've only ever heard of it communicated the other way.

Do we have any idea if you bag a stack in 1A if you'd get a refund onto your player card for 1B of the 1100?

Lol, this is the worst schedule they could've done.

They've never had a problem selling out the 1k during the week, they never sell out the 5k when they've run it, why not put the 5k to start the series on Saturday and try to draw the maximum amount of people?

You can de-escalate and run the 5k followed by the 2500 and then the 1k. Really no brainer but they don't care about poker much so they just copy and paste the schedule and never try to improve anything.

Does anyone know if when you pay with a credit card, is it charged on your card as a cash advance?

I'm planning on coming down for a few weeks to play satellites. Couple questions.

1. If I win multiple $1100 seats, do they automatically register me for both day 1a and 1b? Or will they register me for one day and refund $1100 onto my card. I only intend on playing one flight for $1100.

2. I see they have $125 sat for a $550 sat into the $2500, and a $235 sat for a $1100 sat into the 5k. If I win multiple $125 and $235, do they credit me with the money if I already have a spot in the target tournament?

3. If I have seats for the $1100, $2500, $5000, and run deep in any, is there any overlap which would interfere with me registering for a tournament. For example if I run deep in the $2500, is there a chance I would miss the $5000? I hear there is no refund so I'm wondering how that would work.

This wasn't the case a few years ago. It was charged more like an event purchase. You're buying a ticket to something so something is wrong is it's being charged as cash advance.

After returning from the epic Caribbean Poker Party, I drove to Fallsview so here is my trip report, including what has changed since the last WPT FPC in February:

- The casino area close to the poker room has been renovated, including the 365 Club. It is brighter and more open, so if you like people-watching while playing, you will enjoy the distractions.

- There is a new Casino Shift Manager in charge of WPT FPC.

- 7 cash game tables. I think some of the Fallsview pros are already at the WPT DeepStacks / Run It Up in Calgary.

- Fallsview is now using the Bravo system. You may be charged for parking if you forget to have your card swiped everywhere you sit or don't earn enough points for the day. I asked at the VIP Desk how many hours of poker I would need to play in order to avoid the $20 parking fee for Sunday ($30 on Saturday), but when they swiped my card, they told me that my card has free parking.

- One of the regs got drunk and kept talking loudly. When I saw the familiar security suit along with a very tall back-up, I thought that he would be thrown out but he was not an abusive drunk and got a second chance.

- A player lost his cool after a dealer mistakenly mucked his hand and made demands. The guy kept complaining non-stop and I asked him to keep quiet first before he gets kicked out, and listen to what the supervisor was saying. He kept blabbing and was eventually told that he was being thrown out. He finally calmed down and asked for forgiveness. The service-oriented supervisor gave him a second chance. After spending a week in Paradise, it was just another day at Fallsview!

- All entries and satellite wins will be issued as paper vouchers this year, with no more plastic cards. While players were initially told that we are SOL if we lose that piece of paper, a manager has told me that if you buy-in or win for any of the six tournaments, it is recorded in your account and you won't lose your $5,000 entry just by losing the paper.

Just like last year, there is only one Day 1 for the $2,500 and $5K events. One re-entry per player until the beginning of the 10th round.

I will be playing the 1,100 this year, first time playing a fallsview event.

This event usually sells out, correct? How can I ensure I get a seat at the start of the tourny? I would register in advance but the tourny info says registration doesnt begin until 10am the day of. So you cant register in advance? Would I have to show up at 10am to ensure I get a seat?

Any help would be appreciated

Both days of the $1,100 has a good chance of selling out. You simply have to buy before it sells out. The Bravo receipt will already show your table and seat numbers. "Registration" is just showing up the day of your tournament with your player's card and receipt.
