I found my own answer.
Look at wsop.com/news for press release.
$10k buyins for top 100 ranked players still allowed with the $1060 being a cheap way in for those 100 players.
40 auto qualifiers, 2 playin @ cherokee, 2 @ wsop.com, 56 at large qualifiers(really 57 since Scott Stewart has double qualified)
I still can't come up with a reasonable explanation as to why it's not in Vegas during the WSOP.

Not too excited about the date and location, but obviously we're at the mercy of the wsop.

At least if there has to be conflict with Choctaw there's going to be a full series going on around the championship this year to help make up for it. Would be a bummer to break all those plans to hit NC and play one tourney.

lol at the 1060 mega for top 100 ranked. If you've made the money of the top 100 and have even bothered to come to NC for the natty, why would you further bother to play a 1k satellite?

I studied flight options carefully. For those who want to play Choctaw, Best bet is to is to fly to Atlanta and rent a car. It's a little bit longer drive but has tons of non stops to dallas area. You can buy all the options on southwest for around $100 each and use whichever one you need. All other airports are longer flights and much more expensive. You save an hour or so driving but pay way more for ticket to dallas and most likely not non stop.

the year the had it during the wsop, the players at the FT had to rush to make it into the wsop main event.

not sure if thats accurate. I played it that year and iirc they played day 1 of the natty during wsop main 1a, day 2 of the natty during wsop main 1b, then took a day off during 1c, and played the final table out during day 2a of the main event.

But like some others said this was clearly a $$$ move. Cherokee paid the most bucks so thats where the natty is. It's just said that wsop couldn't have planned this better.

What a joke. How can you not schedule this on a Friday-Sunday?
They announce it this late and expect people to be able to take 4 days off work. If I somehow am able to get off work, I certainly won't be able to play main event now. There is a good chance I'll be fired if I take off. Refunding the 10k should be an option for how bad they screwed this up.

How can they assume that when half of the qualified field can get in by grinding 1 Main Event or 1 week of tournaments at 1 stop?

Yes, we need a title change. Some people won't show up to Cherokee for the Side events based on the fact they believe this is just for the NC on 2 days.

Grinders will mostly be at Choctaw...I imagine only locally based players and people playing the natty will be at the pre lims, I'd imagine the turnout to be weaker then a normal wsop-c cherokee.
