To me, it is not so much the BI as it is the return on my investment that I care about as long as I can afford the BI. So, the Pro’s for SHR were guarantee is better, structure is better, and payouts are better. Pro’s for Winstar were lower cost and softer field. Also, Winstar payout structure might be adversely affected after first place if they do not get enough players. I have nothing against Winstar but this adds up to me that SHR is definitely worth the extra $2,800 to play instead of Winstar.
So, I took your advice and analyzed the SHR structure ($30k ss, 40/60/90 min levels) vs the WSOP $5k structure ($15k ss with hour levels).
At every level, SHR is better than or equal to the play in the WSOP $5k tournament structure. Actually, the two structures are almost exactly symmetrical up to the point when the SHR 90 minute levels kick in at level 24. First 8 levels are somewhat similar. Levels 9-23 are exactly the same. Used duration of play to compare instead of levels since there was a mismatch of time in the first 9 levels. A couple of data points as example below:
Using 2,000 Players – Total BB’s in play by time
After 2 Hours: SHR - 400,000 BB’s <---> WSOP – 300,000 BB’s
After 4 Hours: SHR - 200,000 BB’s <---> WSOP – 150,000 BB’s
After 6 Hours: SHR - 100,000 BB’s <---> WSOP – 100,000 BB’s
After 10 Hours: SHR – 37,500 BB’s <---> WSOP – 37,500 BB’s
After 16 Hours: SHR – 10,000 BB’s <---> WSOP – 10,000 BB’s
After 20 Hours: SHR – 3,750 BB’s <---> WSOP – 3,750 BB’s
Last year’s SHR tourney got down to top 10% after 16 hours of play. Both 2014 WSOP $5ks got down to top 10% after 16 hours of play.
Basically, the SHR structure utilizing a $30k ss is a mirror image of play to the WSOP $5k structure with a $15k ss for the first 20 hours.
Well done Bender, happy to see that they are using the same structure and payout I developed with them last year but sad I will not be there to run one of the best events of the year.
Good Luck to everyone attending, William Mason, and the dealers/staff.
