is there any satelite packages online? seat + hotel or is it seat only?

From what i've seen it's seat only. There are several satellites running on stars, from 1.50$ or a direct satellite for 109$

All are seat only unfortunately........sucks for people travelling for it.

yeah true, got lucky during canada cup getting a hotel hooked up for super cheap but can't get that hook up again for this.

The problem with seat + hotel packages - esp for a $1.1K event - is that it takes so much of the money spent on satellites out of the event and into hotel rooms and such. Any $$ awarded to hotels and travel is money that isn't going into the target tournament but instead for a player's lodgings. It really changes the dynamic. When you're talking about a $10K event in Europe that's one thing, but in the context of a $1.1K event that's within driving distance of the vast majority of players, it doesn't really help the economics of the event as much as you'd think it might.

Makes sense, I will just wait for WPT Montreal and try to win a PartyPoker package.

I'm travelling to this from Halifax. Got a cheap flight $372 CAD return. Not just for this tournament series but my first trip to Montreal so gonna make it a holiday + an orgy of cash games in various poker rooms all over the area. I live in Thailand and don't get to play live much so this will be a great for me and there are a lot of affordable donkaments in this series as well...hopefully lots of locals show up with these low buy-ins.

What's the best (cheap) hotel that's close to playground? No hotel discounts for this series?

Again we have made arrangements with the Marriott Residence Inn Westmount (which is actually in downtown Montreal) and the Sheraton with rates starting at $149 and $179 respectively.

I'm trying to get clarification on this matter - I'll report back here asap.

Hey everyone:


1. Due to unforeseen circumstances, PokerStars has withdrawn their branding from the event.

2. The Festival will be held as scheduled with no changes.

3. The Guarantees will remain in place for the Kickoff Event (Event 1) and the Main Event (Event 10).

4. Online satellite winners will get their seats as usual.

5. Live satellites will continue as normal and all published guarantees will remain for satellites.

6. There is no change to the Mega Overlay being held this weekend.

7. As far as we understand, PokerStars has stopped running satellites online for this event.

I assume this has to do with the Amayo group purchasing Stars?

This is not cool. I booked a holiday around this event...I have already spent thousands on flights and renting a luxury condo in downtown Montreal for 16 nights. I will still have a good holiday in Montreal but I'm afraid now that the turnout for the tournament will not be very good with PokerStars pulling out. Pulling out this close to the event is not very customer friendly...if I had known before now I may have gone to the WPT Legends of Poker in LA instead.

Hey ChoakMyDee - this was obviously a surprise (at first) for us as well, but when assessing the situation, consider that there were already around 100 online sat seats awarded before this situation arose, which is added to a similar number of live sat seats and something like 60-70 yet to be awarded between today and the Main Event - so there's almost a full flight's worth of sat seats in the event.

Add that to the guarantees for Event 1 and Event 10 which are in place, and the fact that we (Playground) have run many successful festivals in the past with less support than we were getting from this particular (excellent) partner - and hopefully you'll feel a little more optimistic.

In terms of the operation of the festival itself, BTW, this changes exactly nothing except that our friends from PokerStars won't likely be visiting. But the events themselves have always been run 100% by Playground staff, dealers, floors, etc.

Thanks Mike. It appears that PokerStars isn't what it used to be, in terms of integrity that is. I'm still hoping for a good turnout, based on your post. I was planning to play most of the events. I'm looking forward to visiting your room.

Ridiculous to say this anything to do with Stars' integrity. There are many sides to this story other than your luxury condo vacation being a little less awesome than you were anticipating.
