Re: 2012 WSOP Schedule Released (and other general WSOP discussion)

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I am wondering what my edge (if any!) might be in the Main Event. I am primarily a 6-max cash game player and this will be my first WSOP. I have done well at mid-stakes NLH and PLO over the last four years, but almost all of it online. I went to the Aussie Millions this year and final tabled a smaller tournament. I think it is fair to say that I feel comfortable in a live setting. However, I have very little experience at tournaments and I expect you online MTT-players to have a decent edge over me at <30bbs. Any ideas what ROI I might expect?

There is tons of free parking everywhere in Las Vegas.

There is free wi-fi in the WSOP area. It's the ChipTic network and the password is Interactive (capital I). Works well.

Oh la la, getting trolled by jorj95! Good sign for the series imo! I realize that might have been a noob post and it's impossible to say. However, would you venture to say if a cash game player would even have an edge in the ME at all without grinding pushing ranges etc? Are there still a good amount of purely recreational players in the ME?

How late in the day are they playing 10-handed, like for the 1500 HE events?

Is there a policy on 10 vs 9-handed?

For Event #2 it was still 10 handed when I busted with about 400 left. Day 2 of that event (239 players left) started 9 handed. Not sure if they shifted to 9 handed somewhere towards the end of the night on Day 1 or they waited until Day 2.

I doubt there's a firm policy, since it depends heavily on what else is going on that particular day. As the Megas and Deep Stacks pick up steam later on in the series, they may have to stay 10 handed for longer to ensure they have enough dealers and tables to cover all the action.

Was just reading this PR:

http://www.wsop.com/news/2012/Jun/38...NE-1-2012.html

Quote:
THE 1,500 PLAYER RULE – WHAT IS IT?

Ever wonder why some WSOP events have 10 levels on the first day, while others have 11 levels? It’s based on field size. This year, the WSOP has an unwritten policy to play 10 levels on Day One when there are 1,499 entrants or less. Events with 1,500 or more entrants play an extra hour on the first day, which means 11 levels of action.

The explanation behind this policy is simple. Since fields for some events have become so big, the Day Three sessions have occasionally been extended into a fourth day. By adding an extra hour on the first day, players tend to play less hours, when possibly fatigued on the final day.

Re: cash gamer ROI - not being great <30bbs is pretty terrible for prelims but in the main event there is a lot of deep play. yes there will be some short stacks or you may get short yourself but playing well when deep is much more important for this tournament. also you've got a month+ to learn strat still.

Re: 10 handed tables - in event 2 we went 9 handed once all tables were down to 2 sections of brasilia room, i believe that was ~44 tables, during the last level or two of day 1. from talking to the floors they have no firm rule regarding this, so it will probably depend on event size and dealer staffing for the night.

Hey guys. I'm in town for the whole series with my girlfriend. I feel bad cause she stays pretty bored and I don't really want her going out alone all the time. If any of you guy's girlfriends are in the same situation and want someone to shop/eat/explore with shoot me a pm.

Chick flicks on Pay Per View are cheaper than the shopping mall.

Setcho,

Marginal favorite, maybe. Yes, there's a lot of clowns in the main on day one, but there's plenty of good players and tournament grinders are going to eat you alive in so many different kinds of spots that are tournament specific.

"I see several people talking about buying lammers from people while in the registration line. Never been before so I don't know what standard practice is, do these sell for face value or for a discount? Also, how do I know I'm buying legitimate lammers?"

Heard several people saying the guards/staff are more stringent about not allowing people to sell them to other players... any confirmation?

Last year you basically had to beg people well outside the range of the registration lines or hope the 500/1k tournaments were starting.

Would the mods allow a thread for people to post lammers for sale? Maybe there's a spot in or near the tourney room that can be designated for 2+2ers to meet to sell them.

Thanks Fink, I appreciate the answer. This is pretty much what I'm afraid of. Maybe I will try to satellite in so I know if live poker is rigged in my favor this year or not
