There's nothing difficult or challenging about it... and frankly, seeing the second choice is enlightening in that it helps to demonstrate "the range".

My 1960's post has a single pick, and it's only one for each year.

I've had to google a lot of picks from a lot of posters and have added a bunch of new finds to my 'must see' list. That's one of the most enjoyable things about these threads.

I'm one of those that hate Punch-Drunk Love. But you have Bleu on your list so you get a  from me.

It did make me laugh that you have Heat on your list - just because it seems like such a non-John Cole type of movie. I would never have guessed that one for you.

Andy should have picked at least one movie with a Resurrection theme. Back from the dead. Been a bit more than three days but speaking for myself; I forgive you. Can't speak for others and wouldn't dare to. There are all still a surly bunch of lads. Glad to see you In The Loop again, Andy.

2011 Super 8
2012 Cabin in the Woods
2013 We're The Millers
2014 Guardians of the Galaxy
2015 Mad Max:Fury Road
2016 Deadpool
2017 Lego Batman(haven't seen a ton this year, and its early yet)

So, I found it very difficult to choose for 80s and early 90s movies, with the lone exception of 83, which was somehow a weak year. 88/89 were TOUGH. Had to choose between Bloodsport/Diehard and Last Crusade/Road House.

I understand Back to the Future is amazing, but I absolutely love The Goonies.

There seemed to be less good movies to pick from as the timeline moved further up. This might be just cause I've seen all the 80s movies a ton, so I love and am familiar with them all, whereas even though I'm still seeing a fair amount of movies now, I'm not continually watching them again and again on TV like I was when I was a kid.

Of course, Hollywood is cranking out more sequels these days, and there's less original content, so that might have something to do with it. Interesting thread. I like the "favorite" aspect instead of 'best".

Really? I find that comment surprising. There are quite a few iconic, classic 80s movies that were released in 1983:

The Big Chill (my pick for the year)
Risky Business
National Lampoon's Vacation
Flashdance
Trading Places
Scarface
Return of the Jedi

And my runner-up for 1983, albeit probably not thought of as an iconic '80s movie, The Right Stuff.

Chalk it up to me never having gotten around to seeing some of those(The Big Chill, Scarface) and the fact I didn't overly love the comedies that much. Risky Business, Trading Places, and National Lampoon were funny movies, but none of em feel into the "favorite" category.

I actually feel that way about a lot of late 70s/80s comedies-Porkies, Stripes, Animal House, Caddyshack, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Its not that they're not funny-they definitely are, but they just don't bridge that gap from good to great for me.

Again, the thread isn't about great movies, it's about favorite movies. So one might even pick a shockley, guilty pleasure as their favorite movie from a given year.

I guess the comment was made more even in terms of how much I enjoyed the movie, not in how "good" those comedies are. Trust me, if you look at my list, its full of clearly not the "best" movies. Can I rephrase my comment to say most comedies don't bridge the gap from like to love?
