By under appreciated, I mean a group or individual that has been around a while with a substantial body of work, not a band with one self released cd.

Under appreciated. Los Lobos. One of the greatest American rock and roll bands of the last 30 years. Never put out a weak album. These guys don't get near enough love.

Overrated. Grateful Dead. Recorded about 1000 songs, 997 of them weren't worth a ****.

Underrated: Elliot Easton, lead guitarist for The Cars.

Overrated: Michael Jackson

overrated: Aerosmith, The Eagles, Guns 'N Roses, Queen, U2, KISS, Pearl Jam, Motley Crue, The Police.

As a member of Traffic, The Spencer Davis Group, and Blind Faith (not to mention several solo efforts), Steve Winwood does not get the props he deserves.


I would also say that Carlos Santana is underrated, as his library includes some of the most majestic and soulful guitar work ever recorded.


Overrated: Poison. Who likes that ****, anyways?

Poison isn't rated highly. They have 1 good song and that's it.

I mean it's utter cheese, sure, but back then this type of emo arena rock ballad hair band stuff was hot. And in that milieu, this song was good.

I feel like bands like Bad Company, Bob Seger, and the Guess Who are under-rated but I'm really not sure.

I really like the Guess Who, for a bunch of Canadians. Speaking of Canadians, I also like Bryan Adams <runs and hides>

Over-rated: Kiss. JFC these guys suck so bad.

Kiss is my most hated band of all time by a lot. I also hate how loved they are by some of my all time favorites.

I ****ing hate Wilco and think they're wildly overrated. It sounds like very bad tepid countryish music made for people who hate country music.

I hope I don't offend any Kiss fans itt but I get the vibe their "fans" are entirely made up of guys with an average IQ of like 90 who are like "Woah, costumes! Paint! These guiz r good!"

Though I do like R&RaNaPED

Kiss had some catchy singles. I Was Made For Loving You is a work of genius, I would contend.

Steve Winwood should get more props. Also, Lynyrd Skynyrd is much more than just Free Bird.

Overrated - Frank Sinatra, I hate him, don't get it.

I hate Santana too, I don't like his sound and can't change the station fast enough, but he is talented so I really shouldn't say he is overrated. He is probably about where people put him.

More than counter-balance by dreck like Beth. Though I do like me some Calling Dr. Love blasting away when cruising down the highway.

And Mini Kiss. You gotta love those guys.

Over: I don't know that anyone is "overrated". I mean, if your stuff stands the test of time, it probably deserves any acclaim it engenders. But the Eagles, the Doors, Phil Spector, Madonna, Billy Joel, James Taylor, and Blondie are the artists in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who never would have gotten my vote.

I like Wilco, but damned if this doesn't fit 'em to a T sometimes. They do at my house. These guys just keep on plugging, too. Even when I can't understand the lyrics, they nail it. God bless 'em. He's one of those guys other guitarists appreciate, and not the "wanker" types who think Al Dimeola and Yngwie are the greatest. He tells a story with every solo.

Not sure why all the Kiss hate. I mean, they never claimed to be anything they weren't, and they could come up with the occasional semi-classic. Still...it is kind of sad to see those fortyfive year-old Kiss fans still shelling out money for every logo-embossed doo-dad the band pimps out year after year.

To say that The Marshall Tucker Band is under appreciated I agree with - to categorize them as a R&R band is to stretch the definition to a degree that I find difficult to accept. Perhaps that is getting a bit nitty?.

Under appreciated: The Kinks, The Byrds, The Beat Farmers (were they really a R&R band?) Dr. John; and definitely not R&R but Buckwheat Zydeco is under appreciated. Perhaps we need a plethora of threads to deal with all of this.

I don't keep up with the r and r hall of fame, but Blondie and Billy Joel. Really? Man, who votes on that? Amen to Joe Ely and Todd Snider.

Also I don't think Interpol gets nearly the attention they deserve. I think highly of them.

Oh, also honkytonk legend Gary Stewart. Man, Gary Stewart was the ****ing best.
